Forums - Sony - psvita support for the ps4 changed it seems.

They've already confirmed 99% of all PS4 titles will be playable on the Vita. They don't say all titles because it's not all titles. The titles that won't work are those that require Playstation Eye.

The phrasing of the press release is odd if that is true.  If you heard, "range of titles" without any outside information, would you think, "oh they mean every title without a peripheral?".  There are other ways they could have worded it.  They could have said "all titles that can be played solely with the Dual Shock 4 controller".  They could have said "titles that don't require the Playstation Eye".  They could have just flat out said "all titles*" And then added

*excludes titles that require Playstation Eye or other peripherals.

It could be just someone in Sony's PR department with a bad choice of words, but Sony has overpromised an underdelived before, specifically on the subject of remote play.

Sony has already confirmed that Remote Play will work on all games, except those the require a peripheral. This is because a developer doesn't have to code a game a certain way for it to work, the PS4 is just hired wired for it.

Most PS4 owners probably won't even have Vita, so it doesn't really matter.

Oh yeah I do remember reading that games which would be basically unplayable from the ps4 wont be available to play on the vita but I just think the words "a range of ps4 games" suggests a minority rather than the majority. For example if they were to say a range of games supported the playstation eye my understanding of this was that certain games would have it marked on the box "playstation eye support/required game" and I just hope to god that it doesn't become an exception to support it rather than to not support it.

No, a range is completely open-ended.  That's why they used it.  It can mean 2 out of a 100 or it can mean 100 out of 100.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this in the emails being sent out by Sony but it does seem as tho they're now far less commited to the psvita with remote play from the ps4.

http://uk.playstation.com/ps4/features/

but yeah the part that I'm a bit worried about is when it comes to the remote play section of there specifically the point

"gamers will be able to seamlessly play a range of PS4 titles on the beautiful 5-inch display"

A range of ps4 titles... this isn't what was said before where every ps4 title would feature remote play, technically you can say that you can play a range of ps3 titles on the vita too... that range being pixel  junk games and Lair.

But yeah sorry if anyone else had already posted this and I just missed it in the flurry of 1080p news but I'm pretty damn annoyed if Sony have taken another step away from fully supporting the Vita in every way they said they would, was going to be a real selling point for me to get a ps4 but now I'm gonna be in the "wait and see how it works" group of people who are gonna sit out the launch day models of the next gen systems and see which is the first to show it's weakness's.

They kinda have to word it that way, you know, since games for ps move / camera wont be playable.

Yeah I really do hope it's just those games with aren't playable. It's just that most media regarding remore play to this point have said that it will support every ps4 title and then following an * from that point it makes it clear that the move games aren't going to work or games where another peripheral was needed to play them. This is just coming from my experiences with the Vita throught remote play with the ps3 not just in the games supported but in terms of the ps1 games on that how you can't use any diagonal input while playing some games, just the Up down left and right. makes tekken and flying games from the psone just not playable.

Yeah I know it's open ended but people would normally add something to give an idea, such as "a huge range of ps4 titles" it's why I'm saying that just "a range of ps4 titles" is a bad choice of wording on their PR emails.

Thing is tho, would this be a massive double edged sword for the Vita if pretty much every owner of a Vita picked up a ps4 what would be the point in picking up a 60euro version of Fifa2014 for the vita when you can play the console version on your LAN at home, there are some towns now with LAN which covers them all too, so you could have access to the full console game on 2 systems. it's great... but it means if you dont own a ps4 chances of stuff being ported to the console get hurt badly if the remote play app is as great as advertised.

It was revealed during the official PS4 reveal that the console will support direct Remote Play integration with the PlayStation Vita, allowing gamers to play PlayStation 4 games using their handheld console. This will enable players to pause or quit a game on their TV and start that same game on their Vita without losing any data.

Speaking to IGN, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida stated:

"...the Remote Play side will work. So we’re saying virtually every PS4 game will be playable with PS Vita via Remote Play, so you connect your Vita to your PS4, especially at home, it’s a great experience.”

He was also pressed during the interview to answer whether this feature would be available immediately at the launch of the PS4.

“I will be heartbroken if it doesn’t [work] day one," he said. "So day one, my expectation… we have to have all [PS4] games work on PS Vita, unless it’s a camera-only game.”

Remote Play is built into the ps4 so devs only have to do is the controller layout

It may be 8 months old but Remote Play is hardware based and that won't change.  With the PS3 it was by Dev choice and now it is mandatory (Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-sony-mandates-vita-remote-play-for-ps4-games )

Yes, that means they have had 8 months to make damn sure it is possible at launch, mr negative.
