Forums - Sony - Genius Sony Marketing.... (Why they Released Games/DualShock Early)

Everyone knows that Sony has done an early release for PS4 games, as well as the Dual Shock 4.

The question is WHY?

Think about it..... The next BF4 and COD come out on current gen systems before PS4. Both games garner massive midnight launches with millions of fans lined up and walking into stores.

With early releases of PS4 games and DS4... PS4 now has a huge presence on GameStop/BestBuy/WalMart shelves.

Millions of COD/BF gamers will see PS4 products on shelves before they see any Xbox One products for sale. It's free advertising for Sony and will plant a seed in gamers heads.

Sorry I forgot... Assassins Creed IV just came out too, which also brings millions of gamers into stores.

COD/BF/AC are the 3 most popular multiplatform games. Having PS4 stuff in stores will generate a lot of curiosity and interest for the millions of gamers going to stores to buy those titles in the next couple of weeks.

I just wonder if they will invest the extra $400 when they see virtually the same games with a ps3/360 logo...

But you do have a great point there, I think MS needs to really step up their game to compete with Sony, TitanFall exclusive is a step in the right direction but they basically need to give out free sex at launch by this point if they want to stay competitive with Sony, thats for sure

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

From one side this seems genius indeed, but from the other, I kinda dislike the concept of "whoa, CoD PS4!" while the console isn't around anywhere and still isn't available... awareness yes, but is it a good awareness?

until they release that they cant play the game for another week or so and put it down for a the game they can play when they get home and just upgrade the version later.

sony only did this to help retailer out so now they only have to worry about getting the console to the customer and nothing more

Any exposure is good exposure.... Unless it causes the fans to revolt (DRM/AlwaysOnline)

Well, for fact, it is much more good than it is bad
