Forums - Nintendo - The Wii can be a great, cheap, console for core gamers.

While I disagree that we should catalogue "games" within "core gamer", let me show ya:

Oh man! Most of those box arts and names look awesome! And I haven't heard of many of them... Especially Arc Rise Fantasia, Pandora's Tower, Fragile Dreams, Another Code: R, and The Last Story. Are they any good?

A self-appointed title with no value.

Says me the Summon Spirit of gaming.

Well then the title should be changed! The Wii is a great console for everyone, there is a game for most gamers. It's a shame that those core gamers have such narrow minded tastes!

It only needs to be gamer and non-gamer really.  The partioning of people into focus groups does no real use.  Self-appointed titles such as hardcore and core gamer has led to a culture of self entitlement and pandering, and an illusionary legitimacy to peoples bitching during console wars.

I just want to play some good games.

Well, Arc Rise Fantasia is decent, at best. Pandora's Tower is pretty good, I loved Fragile Dreams (though it has its rough edges. You have to approach the game with an open-mind and let the controls do not frustrate you), Another Code: R is an excellent sequel to Another Code (for the NDS) and The Last Story is one of the best JRPGs of this gen.

The core audience.  Your current gen casual gamer.

But isn't the core audience gamers? Why do we have to make a difference by the frequency of playtime. A hardcore gamer as they say is someone who just spends a lot of time and casual gamer is someone who just happens to spend little time gaming. The term is gamer! In my opinion though xD

I don't really like labels either.  Core, casual, hardcore, etc.  I think there should be either gamer or hardcore gamer.  And hardcore gamer is your video game addicts that have a lot more knowledge about video games.

Well yeah that could be also valid, if we take hardcore gamer as just another gamer that just happens to have a lot of experience or knowledge. The less labels the better though xD!

i think when he means core hes talkign about the red ocean and things like that and WIi was very much a blue ocean machine, BUT lots of different people did buy Wii including what the OP would consider core gamer, or how about we just call them hobbyist?. Problem was that the WIi just didnt get alot of the big games. Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Batman, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption, i could go on but you get the point.

A core gamer (if there is such a thing) would buy a Wii U, you can then gain access to all the brilliant Wii U exclusives, the entire Wii back catalogue, tons of indie games and virtual console classics. More gaming there than you will ever need, and very nicely priced these days.

What a strange mix of amazing and terrible games.  While they may appeal to a certain type of gamer, a number of those are definitely not worth playing.  There's some better hidden gems in the Wii's library!
