So a PS4 is pretty much useless without this patch? What about all those gamers with no internet who pre-ordered one back when Xbox One was still "always online"? Guess they are screwed no matter what.

Also, no suspend/resume mode means no auto updates during the night. Can't even use the blu-ray player? That's a good joke...

I don't think people with no Internet buy consoles at launch :S, but don't worry the patch will most likely be included in the second batch of shipment or included in games :D

Also If it came to it there has got to be someone who could put it on a USB stick and it can be updated that way. I am guessing it will work the same as the PS3/360 is this regard?

Different features. Suspend/resume is playing a game, turning the system off, and then having the game in the exact same place when you turn it back on again. The low powered mode is there at launch allowing auto updates during the night.

You can play games... outch.

And stand by feature woks... the "suspend/resume" is the feature to pause a game, put the PS4 in standby and resume it when you want... the game... not the PS4.

The PS4 have standby.

Really? You do realize that the day one patch for the Xbox One is needed just to play games right? Not to mention that the PS4 patch is 300 mb which even for someone with slow internet should take only a couple of minutes to download where MS said that the update for the one should take "15-20 minutes for most people"

I'm getting dizzy from all of this spin...

Come on, you've been on the site for over a year, you know how those guys work, don't act surprised :P

Don't get me wrong. There are plenty of MS fans on this site that are completely reasonable just as there are Sony fans on this sight that are completely unreasonable.

It's not surprising, it's just painful. But I can't imagine making a comment like his when it's already pretty well known that the Xbox One has an update that is both more restrictive and will take longer to download.

That would be like news coming out that the Xbox One will support 7 controllers instead of 8 and me saying "Ha! What a joke! Only 7 controllers!" Knowing full well that the PS4 only supports 4.

Sony should put the patch on all launch game disks, that would save them some bandwith

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well they'd still need to finish the patch before the launch games start printing.

This way they have an additional month of debuging it.

I just don't get why they need  apatch for Blu Ray / DVD film playback.  That is my big annoyance here to have to find a place to update it for what I consider a pretty basic and simple feature that has zero need for someone to ever go online to take advantage of.

I don't know, the only thing I can think of is that they need it to unlock the disks? Not sure though.

It's probably not a patch but a licence you need to aquire personally

I don't see what the big deal is sense the Xbox One also has a mandatory patch that must be instatlled to even use the system. Wii U also had to have a patch installed, so it seems this day one patch will be the norm for systems from now on.
