But what if it looks worse at full HD?

Look at GOW HD verse GOW:A

Obviously the HD port isn't using all the PS3's power, but it shows my point. The second image that's only 720p looks much much better.

I know you just want more posts, but stop this :P That's pushing it too much ;)

I'm fully serious. Devs should sacrifice IQ if it allows the graphics to be bumped up.

Look at the PS3. It was fully capable of doing 1080p yet so many games were well below that. Why? Because dropping the resolution makes the game look better. It's just like the argument of 30fps vs 60fps.

however there is only so much in game graphics you can bump without needing a higher res to show it. its like if GoW:A was SD, they could bump the quality up so much more but it still wouldnt show. there is a need for balance.

Funny you use the word balance. How is balance achieved? You need to sacrifice something don't ya? If you're prioritising maxing the resultion you're not really looking for balance.

you always need to sacrifice something. but some hardware doesnt need to sacrifice much to achive 1080p. games will look sharper, better, cleaner with 1080p than it is 720p. again when it comes to a point that the hardware it able to achieve 1080p without sacrificing much, then its only logical that we bump up the res. specially when there is a big difference. you do realize that it would reach a point that no matter how much you bump up the res of a texture it wont show without bumping up the res of the output, right?

1080p takes around twice as much processing power as 720p. It's not worth it.

Of course, but look at any real life picture at SD. It still has much better graphics than any game we've seen. Increased texture sizes and polycounts as well as better lighting would be fully visible without bumping up the render resolution.

but that wouldnt be real life graphics, as it wouldnt look like that in real life because its way to blurry.

we will have to see how the gen goes and what the devs choose to do i guess. im not claiming they should go 1080p but im saying who ever says there isnt a difference is just in denial.

fyi for the record, i have a 720p tv that i play with. i would actually prefer if devs go 720p, as i personally wouldnt benefit from games being 1080p.

Re-posting this from last night. Top is 1080, bottom is like 350.

Which looks better?

Here's the native 900p image.
