Out of those of us getting PS4s at launch, how many are upgrading the hard drive out of the box? If so, what are you putting in there?
I'm considering a 1TB SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive), but I wanted to get thoughts from others.
How much is it? got any links? I'm planning to upgrade from day one too, I'm considering a 1TB from WD and to use the 500GB from the PS4 to my 160 gig PS3. The 1TB WD costs around $80.
I can only imagine the improvement will be bigger on the PS4.
I'll probably be swapping mine out but that'll be sometime next year, and I'll have the luxury of a year's worth of testing to know what to put in.
Nice vid!
Thinking about it, SSHDs seem like a very good fit especially for console gaming:
Because on video game consoles, the common usage pattern is to maybe have dozens of games on the drive (hello PS+ subscribers) - but typically only one of those games will be played very heavily for at least several days while the data from all the other games will not be used at all for months. So while one may require huge quantities of storage space for all those games, at any given time, the vast majority of that storage space will not be used at all, while a very small portion will be used heavily.
Seems like an almost perfect scenario for an SSHD. When switching to a new game, the SSHD will automatically adjust itself and store the data of new game into the SSD part of the drive.

Yeah, I saw that video and was impressed, and came to the same conclusions.

Thanks, I'll get my PS4 about 3 to 6 months after it releases, I hope that WD releases the hybrid drive they've been working in by then, If not I'll surely get this drive.
