Forums - Sony - This new PlayStation ad is nostalgia overload

It actually was released on my birthday in 95'. Too bad I didn't get it till Christmas that year. They bought it a couple of weeks after it released and kept it under their bed. So the hour between when I got home and my parents got home I would pull it and make my friends jealous. The first games I got were Battle Arena Toshinden and nfl game day 96. Memories.....

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

the sound of a race starting in gran turismo, the sound of a fight start in tekken and the sound of the power on ps1 are unforgetable xD

This.

Also the MGS and FF commentary. I got chills.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

The attention to detail in this ad is just awesome.

Oh, and plus nostalgia points. I own the entire playstation family up to this point and will gladly add the PS4 to my collection. Dat boot up sound.

Yeah, really great ad.

That PS2 Boot-Up intro followed by the FFX intro music...  That SOCOM music as it boots up...  So sad!!!!

really don't have good memories with the PS1...not that I had any problems with it, its just that I really didn't becomes a adamant gamer until the PS2 dropped...but damn this really does take me back(even though I'm just 22)

Being 19 and all, I can't say I've been a Playstation gamer since 95. I grew up a Nintendo gamer with the Snes, N64, Gamecube, and handhelds.

The Ps2 was the first console that took my gaming to the next level. I officially became a gaming addict with the Ps2. Favorite games were NFL street 2 and Jak

I bought a 360 at launch, and loved it. But a couple years later I decided to plunge into the Ps3. What a great decision. The ps3 has been the console for my gaming "prime". I've played so many wonderful games and have had a million different experiences. The Mass Effect trilogy, Uncharted/Last of Us, Skyrim, Ratchet and Clank, Journey, oh so many more.

The Ps4 will be my first launch console of my gaming "prime". I'm rooting for the Xbone and Ps4 to both be successful though. But in the end, Sony will take the crown once again.

So. Hyped. For. Next. Gen.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

I'm very proud to have grown up on PlayStation consoles my whole life. A great number of happy memories.

This video was awesome. I particularly liked the time-lapse building of the Gherkin in the background.

Thats actually a awesome ad for once, I just hate the way they play the controllers lol

My first PlayStation memory was amusing in hindsight. I was 11 and in the toy store and scoffed at "those walk man guys" trying to compete with Sega (who I was hyped about the Saturn at the time). This seems insane now, but mid 90s were littered with Phillips, Apple, 3DO, Atari failing to break in. Sony were the exception.

In 1999 I won my PS1 in a math competition at my school. I remember getting Jet Moto 2, Suikoden and Metal gear Solid to celebrate my victory. Still, that age of consoles was the low point to me with so many games looking butt ugly (yes, even at the time!) that while it was okay Sony did not win me over yet as still did not associate them with games like Nintendo or Sega.

The PS2 may forever be the greatest console ever for me. The library was so vast and deep that it dominated everything else. This was when Sony became a fixture of my gaming life and as much nostalgia as I had and have for Sega and Nintendo, Sony took its place as the dominant system in my house. It was simply a juggernaut and countless games I played on it monopolizing my time.

I will always love Nintendo and Sega for the 90s memories, but in hindsight Sony has been a force for good to me as a gamer. Slowly they worked their way in to become the company and console I look toward to lead the industry.
