I pledged for this the 2nd day it came out but I never shared that on this site yet, but since there is less than 24 hours to go anyways, I might as well. It uses an entirely new idea for 3D printing with resin and is the kick ass. :)

Interesting idea, but I am not sure how viable it will be for a lot of things. The detail just isn't there. It looks like it will be a cool toy to play with but I don't see me making a lot of useful items with it.
Guy is pretty smart though. He came up with some pretty good ways of working around using expensive parts.
I may buy one on release for kicks but holding out for the powder based printers for the real useful items I want to make.
Last time I looked into them they were getting them close to being able to print out shoes.

When and if the really impressive ones hit a fair market price, it is going to kill a lot of industries. You will be able to make so many things that home, from tools, to utensils and shoes even, that many companies will go under over it.

Why pay for a crescent wrench when you can print your own. Why pay for shoes when you can print your own. Want a new case for your phone? Print one.

That revolution has already started. Have you checked out shapeways stuff recently?

The resolution is very high since it's laser based, would be nice for making certain parts using the hard resin for places that doesn't generate lots of heat for sure. I currently have a Prusa i3 and I can see myself using them for different things so it's pretty exciting for me. :D If you check their Kickstarter updates, they even have mixtures for more elastic resin and you can mix them for different hardness. They are also currently improving the design and contracted a company to make mobile apps for iOS and Android already. It's pretty cool shit. You can pretty much already print out shoes using a softer more elastic resin and just pad them if the material ends up being durable enough.

It's only a hundred bucks, Canadian money lol XD well and a little bit of shipping I guess.

Not yet but I will look. I know you can already buy printed stuff and have stuff printed for you, but I think when they are cheap enough to be in every home is when the biggest impact of them will be seen.

I'm still waiting for a normal printer that doesn't break down after a month :L
