PS3 never sold well, the PS3 secret is the longevity (like x360). That 10 years plan is almost coming true (and will, the next couple of years ps3 will be among us, selling like Psp and than like Wii is today)

The PS3 will be with us for many years yet as a budget console and primary console in poorer markets. It combines many great features including bluray playback that increases its functionality. There is no ps3 backwards compatibility with ps4 so that will help keep the ps3 in many homes for a while longer.

I really see something like 130 million as achievable. However this really depends on Sony's decision of when they discontinue it in different markets. I think the Uk probably has another 3-4 years easily. Also it depends on what the later ps3 models are like.

Yeah, I am really surprised that not even a tweet or anything was stated. Maybe we will find out from their financial statement in a few weeks.

I'm optimistic and I say is going to surpass PS1! 105-106m lifetime.

Is there 25 million console sales left in this generation? If there was 25 million than 80% of them would have to be PS3 purchases to get 20 million. 90 million is realistic, 95 million is attainable but 100 million may be a stretch. As soon as the long awaited new systems in the PS4 and XBox One arrive and add competition to the 8th generation console sales wars the sales of the PS3 and XBox 360 should come to grinding halt. PS3 to PS4 has been a 7 year gap. XBox 360 to XBox One will be a longer 8 year gap. Wii to Wii U was only a 6 year gap. The Wii sales dropped off a year before the Wii U launched and PS3 and XBox One are well down on their previous year sales. 

105 millions for me, PS3 will have LEGS! (I plan on buying another one instead of a ps4, lol)
No backwards compatibility=legs for ps3, isn't it obvious? Blu-ray playback=legs for ps3 (compared to Xbox 360)

Pretty sure it will get to 100m... I have no doubts about that.

Actually not convinced Sony will drop the price that quickly (nor MS for that fact).. except for Holidays... cause i think they want to continue making as much money as possible from it.

If you think that the next gen consoles are $399/449 or something then a $199 console is a good middle ground.

I expect next gen to start well and continue well all next year, still expect PS3 games all of next year, it will be 2015 before we start to see a drop off from them.. so i think there is still 2 years support and 3-4 years additional sales. So i think 5 years sales, can easily see 20m.

The only thing that will disrupt sales of PS3 will be how long the X360 is supported and if it will drop off quicker.

Let's see how well PS3 does with its first $199 holiday. With its amazing library, I am sure it will attract many people even some 360 owners. Then it can pass the 100m quite easily.
