It's happened! (insert "It's happening" gif)

The PS3 almost missed it but this week it shows on the front page that it's indeed over 80m consoles sold WW (or rounded up).  So did any of you believe it could reach these heights in 06-08?  How far can PS3 go?

For reference PS2 sold about 33% of its total lifetime sales after the release of PS3

If PS3 achieves JUST 25% of its total lifetime sales after the release of PS4 it will be well over 100m

Longer gen should mean less legacy sales but we should also consider PS3 JUST got to $200 (for a barebones model) while PS2 was at that within a couple years of launch.  This means the future price cuts still have their effect to come.

I'm thinking 100 mill max.

Congrats to PS3 for reaching 80 Million! Launching a year later then it's competitor in the US, 16 months later in Europe, way higher price point and still manages to beat them to 80 Million sold! Congrats to Sony and PS3! Pop the champagne!

I think it could reach 90 million but the Next generation is coming and it could kill the sales of the PS3!

Anyway, amazing number od course and it should have a really good holiday this year, Sony should do a lot of bundles with their greatest big games from this year, TLoU, GT6, GTA V, if the deal covers this timeframe still, Beyond, GoW:A

I think it will sell very well at the end of the year, Its at 6.2m right now and its totally possible that it can sell 3.8m this nov/dec. If Sony supports it for more 3 years, and cut its price 2 more times, i think its possible for the PS3 to reach 105m lifetime.

I can't believe people saying ps3 won't reach 100 million lifetime, in 3 or 4 years... PS2 was about 110 mill when ps3 launched and it sold around 50 million more, so ps3 easly can sell 20 million easily alongside ps4....
