Well I was planning to travel to US in January already but I think if my friend found it for a good price in Paraguay in December then I will get one.

Cool, then I will do almost the same, will travel to Sao Paulo after the US launch if they have some units in stock at some import shop...
Wow, I'd never ever buy a console even at half that price.
Can't be real. Probably a Sony PR stunt just to come out next week and say "JUST KIDDING OUR PRICE IS LOWER THAN XBONE".

While I'm sure taxes have something to do with it, it's strange that everywhere else the PS4 is being priced lower than the One. Why would Brazil be different?

My thoughts exactly.
Sony is undercutting the Bone every region. Why not Brazil?
Mark my words this is a worldwide trolling PR stunt.

Crazy to say the least. Afaik the X1 is not being manufactured in Brazil yet (Not for the next year or so.) Either MS is taking some huge losses in Brazil with the X1 or Sony went full retard(and greedy) with the PS4 in Brazil.
My bet is that Sony is just being greedy though. Brazilians will pay the premium just to brag about it and electronic manufacturers do know this and exploit it all the time.
I hope the X1 does really well there. Sony can suck it.

MS cannot take a thousand dollars hit on each unit man, it will be 1 billion loss for every million units sold in Brazil. Sony Br just went insane.

You are saying this is just down to import taxes?

Well there's certainly some sort of market distorting effect going on, there is no way Sony would of its own choice put PS4 on the market anywhere for a higher price than Xb one. Even here in a bordering on irrelevant market PS4 is $100 cheaper (which should actually be $120 cheaper if one was to simply look at exchange rates, but complaining about that in this particular thread would be petty in the extreme, so I will just leave it as an observation).
Normally a market distortion of this magnitude would be principally down to import tariffs. What I can't figure out is why Xb one is cheaper, could it be that US electronics have lower trariff rates than electronics that come from outside of the Americas, or some such thing? Though differential tariffs based on origin could breach WTO rules. In theory a country has to be equal opportunity protectionist, however WTO rules allow for special deals via FTAs or regional trade agreements. But we all know a lot of countries say they play to WTO rules but actually secretly give the middle finger to the rules when it suits because it has to be a really big deal for a country to want to go to the fuss and expence of entering into a disputes resolution process under WTO.
Until otherwise proven I'm putting the blame on import tariffs. For at least 95% of the price difference. But Brazilians will keep on electing governments that do that sort of thing, so they get the tariffs they deserve.

Well Oct 24 is the official Sony event at BGS... I want to see what they will say about the price.
