Really it does sound like MSFT is making a few nice upgrades to Xbox Live which makes me happy. And looks like we are approaching that 50m mark for XBL. Wonder if this holiday it will make it or not.
The comparison that I would like to make is Live Gold VS. PS+ as far as active members. Whatever the percentages are now, they will change dramatically for next gen. My guess is that currently XBL has 2 to 1 more than PS+. With Next gen forcing PS gamers to go PS+, the numbers will be pretty even after a 18 months or so.

This is about as close to a confirmation in dedicated servers for most to all games
. Hopefully we hear something soon that's more to the point.
I can't wait to see the snap action in person! Hurry up November 22nd!

I would be really surprised if it were that close.
XBLG is around half total subscribers last numbers we had, so 24 million. I'd be surprised if 12 million were PS+ subscribers - probably 5m maximum.
You're right though, this will change due to forced payment for multiplayer.

Sony released PS+ sales figures a while back that leads to estimated only 2-3 million PS+ subscribers.
Internet would make you think much differently, but alas this low figure is the reality.
the reputation system is interesting but i have to laugh at the 48,000,000 number. the real numbers are:
ps+ on ps4: 0
xbl on xbone: 0

It was a thread on here a while back. I'm on my phone so I'm not going to do all the simply google search work for you.
Google "playstation plus revenue". There are articles saying it made $140 million in 2012. I can't remember for sure if that was the revenue figure or profits or if there was something else, but it was generally agreed on here in that thread that it meant only 2-3 million PS+ subscribers.
$140,000,000 / $50 per sub = 2.8 million subs
