Forums - Sony - The Vita sells badly because it's called 'Vita'.

Vita has loads of great games, the problem is it just doesnt have that 1 Big mass market game that everyone must have, if it got a proper Monster Hunter for Japan and a GTA 5 Stories for the west, it would sell like crazy.

3DS was exactly the same until it got Mainline Mario and Monster Hunter.

all this pricepoint and lack of exclusives talk is so damn annoying. it's simply NOT true.
it is the constant shit that people talk, since the vita launched, that held it back then, and still hold it back now.

this type of reasonning amazes me, imagine if X1 fans blamed the gamers' attitude instead of Microsoft's mistakes for the E3 backlash.

VIta is a bad name, but the worst are by far it's price, lack of support, and general positionning as a portable "home" console instead of a fun & accessible portable system.

not a good comparison. because microsoft simply fucked up nearly every single aspect. i don't feel like those two situations are the same.

vita got bad talk. big chunks of that weren't deserved. this settles into people's brains. the casuals out there read an article about it that says "no gaemz", so they won't jump on the train. that's the start of no hardware sales -> no gaemz. so the bad word of mouth really hurt the vita in its early life, and that carries on until now. we could easily sit at 7m now when people were objective. it's basically the same that happens to wiiU right now. the name is not the best, but saying the name is a main reason is just another excuse.

price is too high? the price was never, never too high. heck, you can get a Vita for 170€ with killzone mercenary (which got bad reviews, which is another example of stupidly and unnecessary negativity around the vita) and an 8 GB card. NEW.

that is LESS than what you pay for a new 3DS XL, without any games or card. so. this pretty much dismantles all the talk about its price. the value you get for your money is incredible high if you look at hardware alone.

games is another topic. i am happy with the lineup. but people say "it needs more big games", and they also say "who wants console games on a handheld" and they also say "they promised me console experience but it isnt, so it has to be reviewed bad".

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Vita means "Life" in latin, ironic isn't it? XD

Actually, the latin word for life is "Vitae". "Vita" is italian.

Anyway, Vita doesn't sell badly because of its name, just like the WiiU.

The vita sells poorly because of irrelevant games. It needs a system seller on the lines of a GTA spinoff, not some more niche JRPG's.

i do think thats part of it. people don't understand.. never underestimate how stupid people are. There are a lot of games for it now and the price is cheap.. re-name and re-brand it PSP2. (ew)

I think Sony thought PSP2 would be associated to the piracy riddled PSP, so they wanted a fresh rebranding.

imo Vita fucked up nearly every aspect - if it had had at launch a line-up similar to X1's it might have gained enough momentum

you're right about the lowering of the price, but still, launch price and launch line-ups are what usually determine the most the trajectory of consoles, and in those two departments, considering how risky the positionning was, Sony missed the target.

I get it, you want to be cute and symbolic, going all Latin and shit, but seriously, it's still a stupid name.

What if we called the PS4, "Playstation Amour" because it's French for "love"? It's stupid, and people don't understand it, so they don't buy it.

What nonsense. lol

It is a failure for a simple reason, the games are unappelaing and especially Sonys support is a joke after a decent launch lineup. They even shut down three 1st party studios that worked on PSV games this year. That´s the reason.

Actually Vita is the singular nominative form, which would be used as a title :

Singular forms : Vita, Vita, Vitam, Vitae, Vitae, Vita

Plural forms : Vitae Vitae, Vitas, Vitarum, Vitis, Vitis
