Forums - Sales - Manhunt 2

Hey guys, anyone got any official numbers on the sales of Manhunt 2 on its various platforms? I have tried looking around but am not having much luck.

The title appears to have sold under four hundred thousand copies. For future reference you want to go to games on the top of the page. Then enter the title in the space provided then hit enter. Its rather simple actually. I will mail you a link. Welcome to the boards.

Thanks, are these official numbers then do you know? From what I understand the ones issues by the NPD group are the official numbers and VGC uses its own sources to gather estimates? All I could find was a comparison between VGC and NPD's results for December and it looked like there was a large gap in difference between estimates.

I don't really have any kind of understanding of what is good and bad or how well a game is doing. Is the game doing well? It is only out in America so that no doubt crushes its performance value by a lot.

Really sorry about these questions, I really don't know much about all this but I am doing my best to pick it all up.

Thanks for the welcome and helping me out.

NPD aren't really official, they use estimates just like VGC except they have larger sample data, so they may be more accurate.

I'd consider official numbers to be numbers released by the company themselves. While this number represents units sold to retail rather than consumer, they are the most accurate numbers available, and from that you can usually generate a decent range as to copies sold. I'm not sure if any Manhunt 2 numbers exist from Rockstar though.

So many questions. I will do my best to explain.

First Manhunt 2 has been released in North America, and Europe. Even so a number of European countries have effectively banned the title, but geographically consumers can still circumvent that with ease if they want the title enough.

There are no official numbers all numbers in regards to sales are estimates. That said the NPD provides estimated sales figures for North America. They are a analytical firm that uses test samples, and real data from retailers to produce their estimates. The only real difference between the NPD and VGchartz is the sample sizes. The smaller the sample the more likely variation, and software sales are many fold larger then hardware sales. So there will be a degree of variation.

That said however this site routinely adjusts its sales figures when new relevant data is provided. Basically NPD is probably closer to the numbers on software thanks to having a month of time to fine tune their estimates, and their larger sample size. You might say VGchartz is somewhat crude in comparison however it is more timely, and remember this is a hobbyist site not a large corporate firm.

The NPD doesn't publish all its software sales numbers for public review. Only the numbers for the top sellers. I doubt the NPD has provided guidance on the sales of Manhunt 2. That said this site is probably your best guidance.

Given the sales listed on this site. Well I wouldn't say the sales were great, good, decent, or average. They weren't abysmal, god awful, or bad either. I would say they probably made a little less then their investment. What I am saying is they probably lost money on the game just not a lot of money. Given that it was brought to three gaming devices with all the added expense of doing so. They probably needed to see sales of around half a million total to have generated a real profit.

So if you were hoping for a Manhunt 3 given the blood letting over this game I wouldn't expect it. Were you hoping for validation that this was a bad, evil, or horrific game that should not have been released you have a little vindication. While it didn't bomb supremely the developer probably didn't get what they were hoping for.

Thanks for the answers, I appreciate it. But I need to add that the game hasn't been released outside of North America as yet.

I am just trying to figure out if there is chances of Manhunt 3 happening. Keeping in mind that they put little to no money into advertising Manhunt 2, for the obvious reasons. Plus I figure that since the game was developed on older technology and on pre-existing code to create it probably would have been cheaper to make than say the original Manhunt game. Plus Rockstars expectations are likely lower for sales seeing as it is a stealth game, horror game and its lead platform is a console on its way out. Do you have any idea of what Rockstar may have been hoping for the game to do in terms of sales?

There is some NPD stuff for Manhunt 2 here: http://vgchartz.com/news/news.php?id=707 but I am not sure what it means.
