Despite this, PS4 will be like ps vita, very good opening followed by weeks where barely sells 10k units....Sony needs FF XV and MGS V soon, and some Dragon Quest and/or Monster Hunter to even try to surpass PS3 lifetime.

I don't think sony cares much about the JP hardware sales for PS4 at this point. It's a shrunk market now without any major competeitors (in the home console market)

Their main target is the west as it should be

There are two special promotion they're having. The first is if you sign up for internet service you get the PS4 for free... Here in Japan they usually give you like $300-$400 off/coupon to use towards something (like a pc). My friend got $400 off his macbook air when signing up for internet service.(you have to sign up for at least 2 years, iirc). 

The second one allows you to pay off the ps4 in 24 monthly payments with basically a 1% fee for it, which is pretty cheap.

OT: The store nearest me is still taking ps4 pre-orders. There was no rush on them or anything. Very easy to pre-order.

Unlike when they had 3ds pre-orders which sold out from the people standing in line to pre-order that morning on the first day.

where? iv looked everywhere. they all say you have to wait for 2nd shipment in december.

 

All the websites I've looked at say day one is out of stock and they give various dates for second shipment or TBC / you'll get yours delivered as stock becomes available. That includes the Warehouse (says "early 2014" if you pre-order now), EB games, JB Hifi, Noel Leeming, Mighty Ape (says first shipment sold out on 17 July and next shipment due January), Harvey Norman (also says January for next delivery).

Still probably doesn't amount to more than 10K consoles I bet.

I'm aiming for May/June 2014 for a purchase, so hopefully I'll just be able to walk in and pick one up.

Perhaps Drakestar is thinking of Xb one when saying day one pre-orders are still available but accidentally typed PS4.

Thast normal marketing shorten supply so people feel the need to buy things because they believe that its super hot. Happened with other products before. I will start being impressed when its 2014 and we exactly know how many consoles were sold. Everything else is falling for the marketing tricks.
