Forums - Sony - Shuhei Yoshida Gives More Info on The Last Guardian, Blames Jack Tretton for Misleading Everyone

Too many companies these days giving Duke Nukem a run for its money.

Way too many games being in 5+ year development stages and switching consoles. Very dishonest imo. You should not unveil a game when it has no chance of being done for another few years.

I would think its being recoding from working on Cell architecture to X86. Unless they hated every single issue of the game, there is no other possible explanation for it taking this long. Other games with similar development cycles only took so long because of switching platforms.
It would explain a lot. they not only had to rework everything but also learn how to code for x86 having no previous experience

agent stil has a chance, well because we know literally nothing about it exept the setting and name. people were just hyped about it because it is a rockstar game. all it has to do is live up to the rockstar quality. TLG on the other hand has to live up to the trailer and the nostoligia behind SotC and ICO

By the way, in my opinion the successor to Ico and Shadow of the Collossus was already released: Pandoras Tower give a similar feeling. For me the true successor. Lets see how TLG turns out, maybe it can become the fourth entry in the series.

Rime for the PS4 gives a similar vibe as well. But I didn't play Pandora's Tower, so I can't really comment on that game.

People need to get over it.

Clearly something went wrong in development...the head of the dev studio left in this same period.

And how can you put the blame solely on the studio? It was obviously Sony's decision to hold the game back.

Like Pokoko said maybe it wasnt good enough or maybe they decided to move it over to PS4.

Either way theres a lot of people, teams involved in this (internal to Sony ofcourse) and pinpointing where things went wrong from the outside is close to impossible.

Personally i think they were just over ambitious. Or perhaps there idea didnt relate to a good game. Things like this are bound to happen when you are a studio like Team Ico they push the boundaries of gaming. Its risky but its needed in the industry.

I hope they keep strong and decide to finish the game. Im also hoping for a PS4 release.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

Everything I think was already stated prior. Poor development management and Sony should have waited until the game was somewhat near completion before announcement.

Also. I think Japanese devs in big development houses have a really crappy way about developing games. As someone else said, they start as a bunch of small teams with different projects and then move over to different projects as one is released. By doing this, everyone who's coming over from other projects have to be caught up in what's been done, etc. Any input that they give to make the game better might not even be used because they'll be wasting time by going back and changing anything, so they probably just do their required work and don't give any input. A group of people that are working on a team and are there from the start though, all their input and ideas would be there since day one, they don't need to be caught up on what has been done, what they're trying to do, etc.

Agree, this stuff happens in game development, what is the big deal? Crying over it now won't do anything. I swear people are hooked on complaining. I'd love to play it too, but, it happens.

Everyone knows Journey is the real third Team Ico game
