Forums - Nintendo - Scenario: Could the WiiU Survive on just first party?

Nintendo needs to expand. Invest in 2-3 quality studios will help them with the workload and best of all avoid these long droughts. They just need to find fill the spot that rare left.

I was really surprised they didn't buy Atlus, maybe they will make Platinum a second party developer.

Yeah, they'd do alright. But only if they expand. More 1st party studios, more 2nd party ones. Outsource lots to outside studios, and fund their own projects to get them on Wii U.

Then again, they're already doing all of the above, and it seems like that's only set to increase.

@I hope they do

Shit they should buy Sega - 2 for 1 deal- get atlus as well as sonic. The butthurt will be hilarious to witness

If you completely rule out ALL 3rd party support, and I mean that absolutely nothing outside of Nintendo games comes to the Wii U, then no, it won't survive. Simple because Nintendo doesn't have the manpower to make a lot big games a single year, especially now that games are in HD. But that scenario is very unlikely, because some Japanese companies will still make some games for the system, and western developers will at least make some worthwhile games here and there.

A more likely situation is something similar to the Wii, but without the massive "casual" boom. By that I mean that games like No More Heroes, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Sonic and the likes will be on the console.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Have windwaker HD quality games release once a month (of course varying genre) and nintendo would blast off in sales.. But they usually sell crazy during fall/Christmas season coincidently with their game releases..just have these superb sellers once a month for the year and ninendo would be fine

They'll get support from platinum, sega atlus and a few others, I think it should be able to 'survive'

They have been but it does take years to get these games made. They are going to have to because 3rd parties dont want to. They are giving them games set to fail to justify their not supporting it.

What company goes out and tells its consumers" we are pulling the following features from these items but the price will be the exact same"? Seriously?

Imagine if nintendo bought capcom.. They would have resident evil, street fighter, devil may cry, megaman, breath of fire, etc this would make nintendo first party self sustainable

Maybe, but I can't imagine there being absolutely no 3rd party support.

Not quite. That is why Nintendo is partnering up with Sega, Atlus, Platinum, Namco, and other third parties to increase productivity and offer more content for Wii U.
