Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Shin'en: If you can't make great looking games on Wii U, it's not the hardware's fault

It's not like there's anything to hide, though. With Wii, it was clear that you're not in the same ballpark as the competition (with Wii U, it's less clear, but only because the GPU is modern enough to run most of the same instructions, just not with anywhere near the same brute force, whereas Wii's GPU was dated in every sense of the term for its time). With Wii U it's still clear they're running well behind the competition, so there's no reason to be embarrassed about something that you're not trying to hide in the first place. It would be like someone who's obviously poor refusing to disclose their income to two rich friends, unlike someone who's trying to keep up the appearances of being rich but who was actually poor.

Embarrasment cannot be the reason, so what is it?

i don't know if you read the tech thread on neogaf and beyond 3d but the most likely scenerio right now based on what we know is the gpu is  a very effeciante 160sp gpu, so of course they would be embarrassed, thats why they have very strict NDA incase anybody reveals the specs.

But what's the gain from hiding this? Developers have to know, even if they can't talk about it, and they're the ones who are more likely to be concerned by technical shortcomings. Most gamers don't know what the hell any of this means, and many know less than they claim, as these endless threads about it demonstrate (not trying to take a pot shot at anyone with that statement, btw, we're all guilty of it to some extent), so what is there to be "embarrassed" about that you'd go to the time and effort to keep the public in the dark?

What I'm saying is that the way you were saying it sounded like that was inherently the problem with the game.  Also, regardless of the shortcomings, it is still a technical feat.  It's obvious to people watching that it will look better after some polishing.

At this point it's still something very possible on ps360. That's what I'm saying.

The fact that GTA5 looks better in every department then X, from models, lighting, textures, animation and AA, you would think fpeople would stop bringing up X but they still do, i swear if bayo2, mario kart 8 and X were were on 360/ps3 nobody would call them the best looking games on those consoles.

Well bayo2 and mario kart run at 1080p 60 fps last I heard so no, they are far from impossible on ps360. Do we know what res X is?

bayo 2 and mario kart 8 are most likely 720p, x will be 720p

When discussing the power of a system, you can't say "look at this game. It's amazing. It proves the system has tons of power" and then retreat and say "well it's not amazing yet, the games still in development for pete's sake."

I know by release X should be looking better than it currently does, but right now it doesn't. No point to bring it up yet.

With DriveClub we knew it would start looking better too, but no one used it as a testament of the PS4's power until it actually did look better.

WTF are you serious? GTA is great fun but the graphics aren't amazing at all lol. Characters look sometimes really weird. IF you look at the city from a distance it just gets all blocky. The textures are blurred as hell, pop ups everywhere. FPS problems. I will laugh at you when the next couple of Wii U games get released next year.

Statistics are easy to massage, and raw numbers for computing performance all the more so due to the important role architecture plays above and beyond the output of any individual component.

And again, who would care? Is 160sps or 320sps going to make Mario Kart 8 any better or any worse? Certainly a company like Nintendo who, while they have historically not shyed away from making robust consoles, also have not made too many games in their entire history that really relied on their technical aspects to sell them, could afford to be wholly upfront and still make and sell the games that they've always made, moreso than any other company.

To be fair, X was in early alpha and by the time we saw GTA5, it was already in beta and almost gone gold. Also keep in mind that GTA5 runs at 20-30FPS while Bayo2 and MK8 are at the very least 45-60 FPS games, and X being unknown until they either announce it or we judge based on final code.

i see the samething in the x trailers except the models, lighting and animation are severly lacking, not to mention the grass is prendered.
