Forums - Gaming - Shuhei Yoshida: Phones Have Hurt Handheld Market “Quite Badly”

I think Yoshida recognises one issue.

“We have to provide a really great value proposition”

They released the PSVita with a very poor value proposition, a high price point and making it use expensive pointless propriety memory cards, it appears they are trying hard to correct this mistake with LCD and price reductions etc.

While they actually take cost reduction measures like going from "DAT" "OLED" to LCD the PSV2000 will be sold for the same price as the original one in Japan. So the only one benefitting is Sony themselves and not the consumer right now.

That´s a rather silly question, since Nintendo isn´t that desperate to call the console market dead and shutting down prestigous studios like "Studio Liverpool" that work on there consoles, on the contrary they are starting to focus on WiiU right now.

Studio Liverpool made the mistake of not evolving.

This explains Sonys focus on indie games especially when it comes to PSV.

Care to explain?

It was sarcasm because "not evolving" wasn´t the reason they were shut down. It has more to do with Sonys opinion about their handheld market (PSV).

Are you saying that Studio Liverpool was a handheld exclusive developer?

Are you saying that Studio Liverpool was a handheld exclusive developer?

Their last project was Wipeout for PSV that´s the only thing certain. Surpringly enough the other 2 Sony studios that were closed this year worked on PSV titles as well.
What exactly did you mean with Studio Liverpool didn´t evolve?

So? Are you saying one low budget game selling poorly is enough to warrant the closure of a studio? Also, the other 2 studios were restructured.

And you still haven't explained your point about Sony and the indies on Vita.

Do you actually have any information about the budget of Wipout 2048 or just lying? I already explained my comment about indy games and Studio Liverpool. Sony seems to be just fine with shitty indy games not only on PSV but also on consoles, so I don´t agree with your excuse that the reason for Studio Liverpools closure is that they didn´t evolve.

No. Just like you do not have any information that shows that it was because of 1 game on the Vita that a 28 year old studio got shut down.

And can you copy and pate your explanation about indie games and Studio Liverpool? I am failing to see it. Thank you.

What a surprise you have no idea. Show me where I said that they were closed because of 1 game. lol You really seem to like saying things that aren´t true.

Yes I never read about any price cut in Japan because of the cheaper to make LCD screen, the cards got a price reduction so there is something positive for the consumer I guess. Going forward there should be room for Sony to make a price cut for the PSVita and provide that 'great value proposition' Yoshida talk's about!

people on the forums love the Vita because of it's "supah powaful hardware".

the other 7 billion people like the 3DS because of the games.
