Expect it to be a 600-800$ machine that makes the PS4 cry.

Ps4 is a midgen pc with bells and whistles. This is high end without any of that, Valve also has a service already and infrastructure

This I would love to see.

Also on topic, the PS4 itself is fairly weak, let alone the One and Wii U, so I'd be kind of surprised if the Steambox isn't considerably stronger.

2.2 tflops GPU minimum, possibly anywhere up to 3.4 tflops.

PS4 is not "fairly weak" and steambox will be between ouya and wii u.

I can't imagine Valve betting a lot of money on a 600-800$ steambox.
What I believe they will launch, will be closer to a PS Vita TV : my PC doing the heavy work and the steambox streaming it on my TV.

Since its "reveal", I still haven't managed to see the appeal of such an device. It's a compact high end pc that is supposed to be connected to your TV? I currently have a PC connected to my TV (using a laptop for off-living room work), so I really don't see the point. Can we even call it a console? Does it even want to compete with the likes of PS4 and xBox One?
Well, consoles are moving closer to the PC (take the architecture of those two as an example), something we can thank Microsoft for. But still. If I want to play Steam games on my TV, I can just hook up my PC to it.

Or am I missing something? Enlighten me, please.

The last thing I checked wasn't the steambox upgradeable

Go get a PC to do it now. It will probably be able to emulate the WII U in like 3 years ? That way you can have the ultimate platform compared to a company that likely won't compete for next generation.

Not sure about this. If it's really high end hardware then it would cost a ton. Whats the point of this vs just going pc gaming? Consoles are there for affordable gaming with good hardware that will last years. PC can be anywhere from poor to ridiculously $1000+ levels of insanity depending on the person and be upgraded. Where does the steambox really fit in? If it's high end like a pc, wouldn't the audience be those enthusiastic on the pc side. I can't imagine this having wide appeal with console gamers if it cost alot overall. Then again, we don't know much about the steambox.

There's so much confusion out there about what the steambox even is. It could be, but don't expect major PC type upgrades.
