Forums - Microsoft - So could the X1's secret sauce be "Voxel" Cone Ray Tracing?

BTW the holy grail for realistic light is Kajiya's rendering equation but apparently Adinnieken got that wrong too.

Even then the rendering equation does not account for things such as interference, fluorescence, polarization, and transmission.

How many damn secret sauces can this console possibly have?

57! j/k:). True or not it's an interesting read.

Here's a question for you all who believe there is some secret sauce that makes the One as powerful or MORE powerful than the PS4: Why did MS give BOTH the CPU and GPU a boost as a direct response to PS4's specs?

It's just an optimization, if the hardware can stably do it, why not? Also, why would MS's "direct respnse" be something that doesn't come close to evening up the paper specs?

There is only one hardware chip in a retail product that supports it DirectX11_1 and Tier 2 - PTR.  One that just coincidentally shares similar unit counts to the GPU in Xbox One.  That is the Bonaire-based AMD GPU.

Why are bringing up shit time and again? And what the hell has "unit count" to do with hardware features?

In every slide Sony has shown about the gpu they mark it as having DirectX11.2 compatible features (they even label it as DirectX11.2+)

A DX11_0 HD6000 with a driver update from AMD will be DX11.2 compatible.   They don't support the DX11_1 feature level.

To put this simply.  DirextX 11.2 is not the same as the DirectX 11_1 feature level.  The Tahiti and Pitcairn cards are DirectX 11_0 feature level.

Why do these threads about Xbox one specs keep popping up? I thought It is already powerful enough as it is and Xbox adopters are very satisfied with what it offers?

Probably because for months people ps4 supporters have been banging there drums about paper specs. Why shouldn't xbox supporters talk about potentials as well?

Going to drop a bombshell.

Not all HD7000 series GPUs are the same.

Some AMD HD7000 series GPUs only support the DirectX 11_0 feature level, yet they are or will be DirectX 11.2 compatible with a driver update. Only the Xbox One's GPU is DirectX 11_1 feature level compatible. The "Tahiti"/"Pitcairn" line of AMD GPUs are first generation GCN, which is what the PS4's GPU is based on. The Xbox One's GPU is based on the "Bonaire" GPUs.

Why does this matter, it's only DirectX right?

No.

DirectX 11_0 level GPUs only support Tier 1 - Tiled Resources. DirectX 11_1 level GPUs support Tier 2 - Tiled Resources.

Yes, the PS4 will have similar capabilities as the Xbox One, even the Voxel Cone Ray Tracing. The difference is that the Xbox One's GPU feature full hardware (Tier 2) where as the PS4's is software based (Tier 1).

As mentioned in the original post, Voxel Cone Ray Tracing uses Tiled Resources. Both the Xbox One and PS4 are capable of supporting Voxel Cone Ray Tracing, but the Xbox One's implementation is hardware based. Meaning faster.

That is the secret sauce.

LOLOL are you clueless ?

You realize that tiled resources and PRT's are the same thing right ? That also means that the PS4 will support tiled rendering via the opengl extension AMD_sparse_texture.

How do you know that the xbone is based on the bonaire ? if anything its more similar to cape verde in performance

And that last part that is bolded is wack lol, I think you don't know what your talking about.

Yes, I do know they are the same thing.

The differences it that Tier 1 support is software based, Tier 2 is hardware based.  The resource mappings are done in code on Tier 1, they're done by the GPU in Tier 2.

This is me sitting while I laugh at you.

There are no Tier's of PRT's. Deal with it. AMD has added hardware implementations on ALL GCN GPU. It doesn't just apply to bonaire but to every AMD radeon hd 7000 series that doesn't use a 40nm process node. Your trying to hard to be like ethomaz lol.

Edit: It's over I caught you red handed for being a fake in the knowledge of the hardware world.

To me it seems to many people get upset at a POSSIBLE plus the xbox might have.

people moaning at OP fear the One has some extra tricks up its sleeve and is insanely futureproof and probably are just mad at that? cant see a reason this moaning happening otherwise

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Why do people post as if they are forced to browse to the MS section and read these threads? I feel sorry for you guys, being forced to read threads and post in threads you don't care about :(

Also, Xbone will be the KFC of the console world. 11 secret sauces.
