Forums - Sony - Sony Plans To Launch Gaikai PS3 Library in 2014

In a roundtable interview at Tokyo Game Show today, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said that Sony plans to launch Gaikai cloud services with a library of PS3 games in North America next year.

A selection of games will be available at launch, which will expand over time - Yoshida mentioned that users will want a good selection of titles to browse through from the beginning, like with Netflix, so the plan is to launch with a decent number of available games. They will be available to play through PS4, PS Vita and the recently-announced Vita TV.

Sony will launch this service in 2014 in North America. Asked about plans for European territories, Yoshida had no specific timeframe to share, but it is likely to be after the North American launch.

My question is will I be able to put in my PS3 game disc in my PS4 and allow me to play from the cloud. If not im not about to re-buy my games on Gaikai just to play on the PS4.

It would be nice if it had some kind of verification so you didnt have to re buy games. I doubt it will though:( maybe stuff that you have brought off the psn will work free on the ps4.

That's my biggest question.

If it is tied to what is registered with your PSN account, I would be more inclined to make my last few PS3 purchases digitally.

They can allow discs of PS3 for verification to play those games from Gaikai but should force PS+ for this since they need to spend money on servers and its technology to provide them, otherwise they may ask to pay without PS+.



GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Oh ok, anyhow it'll be a few years before it hits my country.

I still believe sony have plans to stream ps4 games in ps vita tv without ps4. If they can pull it off it will be a game changer. Sony will sell more ps4 games (via gaikai).

But that would mean people can only own their games digitally tied to your account without the possibilty to resell them.. If i remember correctly there was a shitstorm about that a few months ago

Shit storm was being forced to be digital, people dont mind the option
