Forums - PC - How's your FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Experience?

I'm buying it today. Are the servers still crap, is the game running fine, is the community filled with idiots, which server is best to play on?

I started it last night for the first time, I got on the server straight away (lich EU)
although I'm playing the Ps3 version but I think they all use the same servers right?

As for the community I didn't come across anyone as I only really finished the introductory tutorial.

I love it and the servers are perfect since 2 weeks ago. Online first time every time since then.

Im on Odin Server so if new players want to join there we can start a VGC group :)

Servers are fine right now.Did a good job with the upgrading and stuff.
Community as far as i did see isn't filled with idiots - You will see a lot of people that never played MMORPGs and are somewhat confused with Boss mechanics sometimes.Especially in the level 50 Dungeons. But those are the real "noobs" - Have patience and they will learn.
Didn't experience any of those "im god tier - Follow me" Idiots and spammers till now.Everyone acted nice in the time i played.

I play/ed(to much work right now) on Odin - Simply cause of the fact this game will lose a lot of players after the free month is over.
Odin was completely overpopulated and probably still is somehow but you can bet there will be a lot of people left after the first ones will leave.
Duty/Dungeon Finder makes things a lot easier and you wouldn't need anyone anyway on your server but i think its nicer to play on a good populated server than on a ghost server.

Those are all relative questions, but the initial rush is over. You can safely start a character.
As for idiots, that are on every game. Theres no way to dodge them, unless you manage to find a nice guild.

This

Everytime i log in on Cerberus I get the announcement the server is full and something between 5 and 30 people are currently in line. Within a minute or so the line is gone.

I've been playing with a pad on Ps3 and out of the three dungeons i did there was one person foulmouthing me for lack of skills. Been playing tank and although i am having a hard time targetting stuff, people still need to rush these dungeons and hardly wait for me to pull and build aggro.
Must be because they've ran them before or something but i do not like the fact that people tend to rush things
this close after launch.

Goldspammers are overabundant and awful.

Besides that i love the game, the storyline is interesting, crafting takes the crown, and it's a Final Fantasy. Really, the music makes a lot of the experience even though it doesn't loop.
It feels like playing a Final Fantasy of old.

I pretty much agree with weave.

Crafting is alot of fun, but gathering can still be tedious. I would repair that the combat, while flashy is not the strong point of the game. Actually leveling a battle class can be quite boring at times, but if you level some secondaries and get all the way to 50, you will find you have plenty of skills to use to somewhat overset the long global cooldown.
Still its a weird one. You can only use one skill and one ability per global cooldown. Once you use a skill you cant use an ability for another half a second. Its a bit clunky and doesnt flow well, but theres so much detail and such an amazing overall design with all the classes intertwining and beeing meaningful (best gear in the game is made by crafters atm, though not easy by any means to get) i cant help but admire.

If we were to make a point by point comparison to WoW:
crafting and gathering - FFXIV wins
meaningful design making every skill meaningful - FFXIV wins
rare and special encounters/events ala GW2 - FFXIV has them
Fluid and intrinsecate combat system - WoW still has a better one.
Graphics - lawl, i think its clear to everyone
Music - Amazing on FFXIV
Story - Good on FFXIV, almost non-exitant on WoW.

In my eyes though, i can see WoW players changing to this. Its overall a better game and will suck them in. Theres alot of content to keep the "slower"players in. The faster player will probably go to wildstar regardless, but theres alot of challenge here for hardcore players that want to stay.

Biggest problems: Goldspammers and movement registration delay. Makes you get hit by attacks even though you're not standing on them. would be grand if they reduced the GCD aswell though.

Loving it so far. Just got my 50 PLD and artifact gear last night.
