Forums - Microsoft - Forza 5's AI is "much more engaging than anything you'll see in another racing game"

Cant wait. Turn 10 are incredible developers. Their games have been amazing. No reason to doubt them in anyway.
if any developer out there can revolution something in the genre they are in, its turn 10.

cant wait for static ai to be gone. Hopefully the cloud and turn 10 are the combination to do so. Looking forward to seeing what they got. Launch day cant come soon enough. Game looks incredible.

I had a feeling they were talking about that cloud AI thing.

This is nice but it isn't anything revolutionary. Nobody is really going to notice the difference when playing.

"Holy shit, guys! Did you see the way they turned that corner!? They turned that corner like never before, guys!" .. Uhh.. No. You're not really going to tell the difference

It's, by far, nothing revolutionary for driving sims but it's nice

"The game's "computer-controlled" cars are all, in fact, modelled on the behaviour of other human beings"

Imagine that! AI being modeled after real life human beings is simply revolutionary!

But really I'm glad they're putting an emphasis into the AI especially since the AI in Forza 4 were pretty poor all things considered.

I just had a horrifying image of the cars trying to act like me. They would just be smashing into every corner and eventually somehow managing to glitch and fling over the fence...

I'm not good at driving games.

OT: It's some great stuff. AI is also one of the few new things I think the cloud is actually going to improve on (for now).

For starters, how about we test it out before we make definitive statements about what will or will not happen regarding this gameplay element?

Secondly, your post was spoken like someone who has never spent extended time with a Forza or Gran Turismo game. The AI in these games leave a lot to be desired. So yes, any improvement to more closely mimic human players, IS something that can be revolutionary and is something that we will be able to tell the difference with.

AI has always been the weak point IMHO, which is why Forza's online appealed to me.

Or my trick of driving the wrong way to see how big of a crash you can make?

Also, I'm going to make some of my friends that are totally terrible, play at least once, so I will have some driveatars to beat.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

My drivatar is going to be such a dick. My stratagy on turns is to use other cars to slow me down instead of breaks.

Yeah, I'm extremely skeptical about this, to be honest.  Red flags all over the place.

The thing is, most people, when they're trying to win a difficult race, throw correct racing form out the window.  Hell, a lot of people do it right to start with.

I don't really understand this and I'd bet anything this is mostly a PR feature that has a LOT less impact on AI behavior than they're implying.  My guess is that they're really just taking the average times of human drivers and using them to tweak the pace of AI drivers.

I have to admit too, when I'm simply trying to progress correct racing form soon goes out the window, corner cutting, gravel braking, pushing cars out the corners, using the rear view mirror to block cars from overtaking, all fair game in single player. I see it as 16 against 1, so all is fair :)

But the biggest thing is seeing these opponents weaving and faking and counter-faking

Faking and counter faking, erm what? We're talking about racing right, not football?

Oooh, i love doing that! :D

Let me play it for you once and the other cars will be so shit you could leave and make a sandwich between laps.

You're talking about the revolutionary thing? It wont be. You can quote me on it

It's still nice but not "revolutionary"

Oh this better be limited to just people paying for Gold. Otherwise so many troll profiles will be made. WTF is this car doing blocking the road? etc.
