I am not referring to secret sauce stuff. If all depends on what / how you want to encode. You can have a standard codec and do it all in dedicated hardware; or you can have something else (highly doubt it) and do it with available resources (GPU included).

Is Kinect a stand-alone device? I can't say that that is impossible, but I can say that it is super improbable (I would bet against it), sarcasm or not.

It is funny because the lastest rumor from the same site says MS uses a 1024bits bus access to the DD3 giving it a 272GB/s memory bandwidth.

They forget how much cost is to implement a 1024bits bus... how you need add PCB layers into motherboard that makes the manufacture a hell of expensive... some GPUs uses a 512bits buss that needs a 12-layer PCB... I can't even estimate a 1024bits buss.

But I'm the bull here.

No lol. Kinect's development cost just as much as the console, not the hardware itself. Getting an xbone specd box for only $250 would be absurd. Plus the insider on reddit later clarified himself about this.

Kinect cost is less than $150... MS will sold it for $150 without take loss.

The Xbone productions is expesive due the complex and big APU... the APU only costs at least twice the PS4 APU cost.

Now sum everything and it is easy to see how the Xbone is $100 expensive... they have a expensive APU plus Kinect... PS4 have a GDDR5 expensive memory but the difference here is small because memory is cheaper than APUs.
