Forums - Microsoft - Dead Rising 3 rated R18+ in Australia due to nudity, sex and high impact violence

VG247

Dead Rising 3 has become one of the first games to receive the Australian Classification Board’s elusive R18+ ratings, ostensibly due to its “high impact” violence and gore, “strong impact” sex and “moderate impact” nudity. Which are all considered safer that Saint’s Row 4′s alien drug use and anal probe gun, which were just too salacious for us down under. Saints Row 4 only just released a few days ago here due to the cut necessary.

Killer Instinct’s rating was also released today by the board, which is just a soft M. Surprisingly, Killer Instinct obtained such a soft rating despiteticking every one of the Classification Board’s boxes, including drug use, nudity and sex, which were not what I expected from the fighter.

At least Dead Rising 3 can still be sold, right? It’ll be interesting to see how stringent retailers are in applying the new adults only rating to such a big release at the next-gen’s launch.

Thanks, AusVGClassifications.

Should nudity even be in games? Redbox is an easy way for kids to get around this. No one to watch what they buy, but parents.

so those of us who dont mind and enjoy it should suffer because parents cant watch what their kids play?

or maybe red box just shouldnt rent anything thats 18+ ..  Its Red boxes problem if they sell it to minors.

I agree. Things like redbox should not be allowed. But I also agree that adults should not be punished. Still, why can't teenagers be allowed to play this type of game? Make a censored version like CD's used to at Walmart.

Well its a business decision.  Do they want to put the effort into programming a different version for kids?  is that market big enough to be worth it?  or does a censored version possibly ruin the image of the type of game its trying to be?   its never all that simple...   but what exactly is "moderate impact" nudity.  id like to know the scenes in question.  because alot of the time these ratings boards are made up of a bunch of super conservatives that gasp if you use the word hell.

How are minors renting anything on a Redbox without a credit card?  This pushes them into the more than likely 18+ category.

Nanny state.

These ratings have always been a joke. It's like censors don't understand the difference between fiction and reality, the huge difference in impact on children.
