Well gay people usually don't have kids to look after unless they adopt. Kids are pretty expensive to take care of. Notice how most people don't have more than 2 or so kids in USA these days. Four kids is considered a lot now when it used to be pretty much the norm a few decades ago. So if you are poor to begin with and pop out some kids then the chances of you escaping poverty are pretty low.
