Sharing and gifting games should have never left for digital games policy. There is literally no reason they had to take it away.

It need the daily DRM check in to work they way they had it set up.  Otherwise one person could buy a game, and gift it to everyone.

To gift a digital game requires an internet connection.  So DRM should already be in place for digital games.  I don't see any reason why they got rid of it.

I agree wit the concept, but there are a bunch lawyers behind all sort of licensing changes that we can't see.

It's why you can't stream Netflix in the UK the same as in Canada or the USA. The companies license there media to specific markets.

It's like DriectTV, you can a USA signal in both Canada and Mexcio, but DirectTV works hard to make sure people can't do that.  Not to be mean, but they have to honor the contrants they have signed to broadcast the shows, movies and music they show.

If they do not, they are violating international laws.

It's not that the concept can't be done, it's the legal aspects that get in the way.

That's true, I forgot about the legal aspects.  Either way I really hope it comes back.  It would be great for gamers, and it would force Sony to try to compete with them, overall consumers would win.

They could check for license before you download the game. Like, if the game is already registered on one console, the system asks the user to first unregister it, which could be done via smartphone if the Xbox is in standby mode. The download on your friends console will not start until the license on your console is removed. Until you do not renew the license, your friend can play the game, even when offline.

Just a quick idea, but I'm sure there are other ways than an online check every 24 hours.

That is what they had, but people complained, screamed, whined, etc.

Now I totally see how people without access to the internet wouldn't like it.  Like someone on a submarine.  But for most people it was fine.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Good, I'm glad we agree that family share is nonsense and speculation.

Nah, try reading that again...It's not what we agree upon at all.

We're agreeing that any discussion about why we don't have this feature after DRM removial is nonsence and speculation.

I know we didn't agree. What? Did you really believe I thought that?

I'm just pointing something out which has been omitted from the argument, that being that the entire share function is nonsense from the start. Just watch what this "let's see how we can get it to work" changes from the family share to whatever system they come up with. Meanwhile they dangle this "10 people can play one game" in front of you right here right now, when it isn't even a feature, and let's face it. This isn't an interview, this is a paid fluff piece. This is marketing, and you're falling for it.

Honestly this is true. One of the MS engineers revieled in a blog post that all it was is a 1 hour free trial.

And that 1 hour trial thing was debunked by multiple actual MS people in real interviews and twitter posts, not a random supposed mystery employee on some website.

Yes, lets believe an unknown MS engeneer and not listen to what the Chief of staff of the devices division personally disclosed on twitter about Family sharing...

Microsoft really isnt the one to talk nonsence. They have a pretty solid record of delivering what they promise... Sony on the other hand tends to overpromise and underdeliver.

I personally didnt really care much about family sharing as I buy all my games and dont depend on sharing them with friends. I just wanted to see these aging console boxes start learning new tricks...

Its good to see people with zero technical knowledge about DRM and Microsofts implementation of it on Xbox One are saying that this can be done on digital games and that Microsoft is screwing/lying to users as usual.

I mean, if you folks aren't in the know and are able to tell us what is technically possible and what isn't, I really don't know who is...

Agreed!

They don't even consider the legal and contractual.  It's like whatever they can think of, should be done.  And if the company doesn't do it, they are evil.

It´s absolutely fascinating that there are people out there believing that:
Despite Microsft wanting to control you through their diabolical DRM (one time check in per day, no used game sales, no lending/rentals, region locking etc.....basically everything we take for granted)....they would have given you and up to 10 people the chance to play a single legally bought game.
laughable !

Leting us share games with our friends so we can all play together.  Those monsters!

What next, are they going to give us a free game, like Forza or Fifi in every preorder?  What if they force us to have fun, when all we really want to do is complain.

It reminds of that scene in Life of Brian where the guy complains that Jesus healed him from being a leper, because that put him out of a job of being a beggar.

No, No, No that wasn´t the original description. They specifically said that you would be able to add up to 10 family members to your account and you would be able to share every single purchased game with those 10 people.

So, you think that they would go through the hassle of restricting the ownership of a game to a redicolus degree (online activation, inked CDs etc.)....and at the same time give 10 people the chance to play a single full price game ? Come on !

The only source that contradicts family sharing is that pastbin that came via neogaf: not a credible source.
