i really hope that the next gen consoles will support something like oculus or will have an own device like they talk about in this article. if they would all support it we would see demo stations in big electronic stores and then many people would understand how awesome it really is.
i would so love to play a game like driveclub or forza with that. it has to be a whole new level of immersion. and something like amnesia would be unbelievable scary then!
just imagine you play gran turismo 7 on ps4 with cockpit perspective with a wheel and such a headset!

The first AR HMD was created in 1968.

driving games would actually be the least games that benifit from it i suppose. the most games that benifit from it would be FPS sci-fi games. imagine being in an exotic alien world and you can use this to look at every single detail you want. imagine the immersion when an huge ass monester is straight up infront of you attacking you. zombie games would benifit from this greatly too. in a racer your confined to your car and there really isnt no exploring a new world. sure it would increase immersion and be awesome, but i feel that action games with a sci-fi or fantasy setting would be insane. imagine destiny, red dead redemption or uncharted with one of these. insane.
what i would really really really love is a super mario 64 remake with some insane graphics and this. super mario 64 introduced me to 3D gaming and it would be an amazing experience if i could jump further into its world with new amazing graphics

racing games can profit a lot from it because you can better estimate the distance. very important for the perfect moment to brake and stuff like that.
but sure, if you are going to say where it will look the most impressive it will be a game like killzone shadowfall or halo with many effects.
so, racing games would maybe look least impressive with it but it would be very useful for them. in other games it would be more a "let it look better/scarier/funnier effect

VR helmets with wide field of view and headtracking have been around for ages, the Occulus Rift is just the first of these specifically developed to be used by regular gamers one day

They've been working on this tech for years and yet with all their millions they still haven't been able to get it right. It took some kid tinkering in his parents garage to finally get people excited for VR.
Sony already released a HMD and it was mediocre just like most HMDs. Why would this be any different?

the same could have been said about motion controlls back in 2006

How is that relevant? Tech improves over time, amazing I know. Also Sony knows this tech is still experimental and not ready for mass production...It is future tech in its early stages. We should be glad companes keep trying to push things forward.
Imagine if every tech company said this......If it was nopt that good before why keep trying to improve it? WOW.
We all knew it was coming, but I'm surprised it was this fast. I'm betting they don't want to be caught out by MS with Fortaleza, like they were with the Wiimote. That leaked document must have really helped Sony.
