Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Can Xbox 360 catch back up to Ps3 this holiday season?

360 has no exclusives this holiday worth noting and MS marketing budget will be spent on X1. So no, they won't catch PS3.

Games are already out for the system. A price cut is going to do more then any game will. if they drop to $100 permanently, I think it will pass PS3 once again. Remember Xbox 360 has not seen a actual price break in years.

Nope, I really dont see that happening. The PS3 is already 600k ahead of the 360 and that gap is just going to get bigger from now until the holidays. 360 is not going to outsell the PS3 by that much, if at all.

Did you read the part about a price drop? Xbox 360 has not dropped price in years. If they wanted to they could make a bundle permanently for $100. I think if they do that, they could erase the lead. However I'm not sure what the price break will be. Xbox in the past has made up over 600,000 units in the holiday season. Also if it was permanent, they would see sales continue after the holiday season.

There's already a $200 PS3 and come the holidays I'm sure it'll be bundled with 2 games at least for the same price. So, no.

They better have a better deal than that, last black friday I got the 250gb super slim with 4 games and a month of Plus for $199

oh I'm sure there'll be all kinds of great deals on Black Friday, but I'm talking Holidays around the world in general, USA isn't the world and PS3 is kicking all kinds of ass in Europe and will be entering some very attractive price ranges for many developing countries too.

They may be on top but xbox 360 really hasn't cut prices in years. Just deals on black friday and new bundle's. I think people will be surprized by how many consoles will move from a price cut.  Expecially if they cut it to $99 permanently. This would get people to splurg. I think they should bite the bullet and do it.

Why on earth would you think MS would decide to start making a loss on 360 in its final years, beating PS3 in sales by a small margin is of no interest to them whatsoever. You might see some $100 ones on black friday but thats all.

Im sure there will be a small price cut this xmas as they have literally no new exclusives on the shelves to help sales, but all marketing dollars will be on XOne.

MS will carry on supporting 360 in terms of allowing lots of 3rd party and making it easier for 3rd party as well, but after titan fall and the other cross gen title, we  will see the last of 1st party support im sure, it will be all guns XONE for MS.

you folks are missing some info not told here.

Their are only so many consolds for launch sony for the U.S. is already near max meaning their isn't any conslods left i say that to say this their head because their maxed out which now it seems like xb one is closing the gap but in reality their not the same goes for the game sells sony games have already bought the games at the top of the list this is why you are seeing new games on the ps4 enter the list. i myself have killzone ordered but im still get bf4 and watchdogs, black flag, and few other game in the comimg months and so are other ps4 pre-orders. it will be interisting to see how thing play out after the first wave of conslods are sold and then see who buys the second wave.

Also we i suppect the pre-orders for the xb one still are not close to the ps4, meaning the longer it takes for them to get the same number will give sony an idea of how far a head they will be in this consold war.But Sony better get a move on with building consold because if i was them i wouldnt let the xb one get close even in the first wave of consold comimg for luanch. sony could sell 5 million world wide for launch only if they have enough consolds. the longer the wait the better chance xb one has of caughting them.

i'm hype for this war, i hope sony wins but they have to do eveything right. and it starts at this launch.

Xbone Hells No.

Both consoles have the advantage, for them not us, of not being backward compatiable. So unless people who don't own a ps3 or 360 already have no intention of ever sampling that generation, than I think both consoles can count on many more future sales, besides if they make X amount, they can count on eventually selling them even if they let them go cheaply.

With all that said, why is it solely hardware that wins a generation in terms of sales. While the Wii is currently leading in software, for the 20 million more consoles it sold over the 360, the 360 seems to have sold more games per console than wii has, like 360 owners buy more games. I think the 360 will definately win this generation in terms of software sold of the 3 consoles. Maybe that doesn't matter to some, but I think it tells you has much it's owners invested in it after they bought it.

They can put the console at a $100 and still profit.

Yes but there are some people that have not bought into the current gen yet. I know thats hard to believe but true. parants who are looking to save cash will also pick it up for there son or daughter.

I agree, that was the point of my first paragraph.  They may put some games on demand from the 360/ps3 on their next consoles like they've done this generation, but I trust that more than half won't, and the only way to play them will be to pick up one from this generation.  Not being backward compatiable is actually a good business decision in that it forces the hardcore gamers to keep their old consoles so the second hand market doesn't get flooded with used ones and so combined with the prices coming down and the large library of games, more incentive for those without one or both of these to invest in a new console.  Especially with bundles.  Also, with the potential for limited consoles for next gen and people like me who like to wait for either price or wait and not get a first batch console for fear of a higher rate of failure, that their is still a lot of life left in this generation and so I think that the "winner" of this gen can't be determined yet.

And in my second paragraph, I pointed out the software favors the 360 from the trends I see.  I think software sales should be factored in as well.  Right now it's Wii 890 million, 360 800 million, and PS3 720 million.  Even though the latter two are neck and neck it's funny that 360 is so far ahead especially considering it's low purchase rate in Japan.  And considering 360 is 20 million in hardware behind WIi, that the numbers arent as wide in terms of software sales.  And after COD and GTA V, that gap is going to shrink a lot more, plus that doesn't factor in games on demand either for 360.
