I'm the new bad news guy here in VGC but I try to give only good news (like the Halo 5 yesterday) while MS didn't help.

Remember when MS paised the launch games on Xbox One will run at 1080p@60fps? Well Killer Instinct is not one of them... the game is running at 720p@60fps and everything that hold the 60fps will be "removed or optimized"... so I can't see they going for 1080p anymore but there is always hope.

We recently got a chance to interview lead producer Michael Willette and design director David Verfaillie from Double Helix Games. Double Helix are developing Killer Instinct which is a launch title for the Xbox One and will be running at a slick 60 frames per seconds.

On being asked how difficult or easy it was to run the game at 60 FPS at 1080p, the duo replied: “Technically we are running at 720p and 60 FPS. 60 FPS is another pillar of the project. Anything added to the game that doesn’t allow us to run at 60 is removed or optimized. Nothing would be more frustrating than need pixel perfect accuracy at anything below 60. It would feel sluggish and unresponsive.”

We also asked their thoughts on Microsoft’s claims about the power of Cloud and how the Xbox One will eventually become more powerful as developers find intelligent ways of using it.

“We can gather tons of telemetry data on how people are playing the game which is good for validating design decisions. We can also let players upload and generate their own video content using the GameDVR feature which is a fantastic tool for sharing new game tech with the community.”

I'm more than a little surprised. I thought that game would make the target for certain. Perhaps I underestimated what goes into a fighting game.



So smoother gamesplay but lowered graphics? Seems good to me, nothings worse than a clunky fighting game.

Every person who has played the game says it looks fantastic. I dont player fighters for graphics and anyone else even remotely serious about fighters wont either. Regardless we will see at launch if it is 1080p or not.

I've never understood why 60fps is such a big deal but I assumed with a fighter as busy as KI, you won't be seeing anything anyway will you?



PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.


Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

60fps for a fighting game is almost essential, but i dont see why this supposed 'powerhouse' of a console needs things to be removed in order to achieve 60fps.
