Forums - Sony - PS4 games can't be installed via disc?

I think it is very likely this is a misunderstanding, or it means that Cerny is talking about the same thing that Uncharted does, but I highly doubt it.

“So, what we do as the game accesses the Blu-ray disc, is we take any data that was accessed and we put it on the hard drive. And if then if there is idle time, we go ahead and copy the remaining data to the hard drive. And what that means is after an hour or two, the game is on the hard drive, and you have access, you have dramatically quicker loading… And you have the ability to do some truly high-speed streaming.”

It does sound like what's being used in Uncharted 2/3, God of War3/A and Killzone3. Sounds like it might be universal now and not just limited to 1 or 2 gigs of data.

lol that second update is so wrong.

Yosp is simply meaning you can't play disk games without the disk. He is not giving some technical answer about how game playing works behind the scenes.

I'll stick with physical copies. I love the pre-order loot and being able to sell stuff later. I also love the idea of a digital library on the cloud. It would be more tempting if digital copies were cheaper than physical copies. I don't think it's worth it going digital if they are the same price. The perfect situation would have been to be able to have both, like the original xbox one, minus the 24 hour check. I hope Sony or MS can figure out a better way than how MS was proposing. Buy a physical copy and get a free digital copy voucher or at a discounted rate.

Shu confirmed again that even with the game installed you need to have the disc on the tray.
