Forums - Sony - PS4 games can't be installed via disc?

Sony President Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed that Playstation 4 gamers won't be able to stream game on to PS VITA while Netflix is running.

In addition to this, Shuhei Yoshida also confirmed that there won't be any need to install disc games onto the HDD in order to play them.

There was some confusion among few Playstation fans related to this, but Shuhei clarified everything. You can check out the Twitter conversation below.

Update:

It seems like Shuhei Yoshida has mistakenly stated that  PS4 games can't be installed via disc (as seen in the above conversation).  This seems to be a mistake, since Mark Cerny has several times talked about installing a game WHILE you play.

Was Shuhei trying to say that "If you buy the disc version, the game installs to HDD but you still need the disc to boot the game."?.

We have asked for more clarification and will update this post as soon as we get to hear something from Shuhei Yoshida.

What you guys think?, let us know in the comment section below.

Update 2:

An update from our reader named CHRIS (as mention in the comment section below):  "Cerny was talking about digital versions of games. While you are
DOWNLOADING the game you are allowed to start playing it as it downloads
and installs the game. Disc based games have no need to be installed to
the HDD as Blu-Ray tech has gotten better and faster.

Is this true? I would love for it to be able to install the whole disc and just use the disc in the tray for verification. Less wear on the laser.

I was hoping we could install the discs and play with the disc still in maybe?
Quite a dramatic difference in load up speeds from my experiences on 360.

It is true. In that case you should buy the digital version of games instead: absolutely no wear on the laser and no need for verification. You can even start playing the games as they download.

This..

It was my understanding that "download while you play" had to do with digital games, and that the thing about using your HDD to store content from the disc was something closer to using it as a cache or a paging system.

Wait does that mean we won't have any installs at all? As in no more game data hogging up my HDD? Because that would be HUGE.

(Not counting save files of course).

It is installed but you will always need the disc on the tray to play it.

Glad the installation requirement is gone, it is one of the reasons I usually buy 360 multiplats over PS3 ones. Going to save time and hard drive space.

I'm guessing this is exactly the same system we have with the PS3. With the PS3 the Blu-Ray disk installs frequently used sectors onto the hard drive while keeping less frequently used ones on the disk. It's a good divide between saving space and speeding up load times.

Of course!
