I liked Homecoming, despite people hating on that one.
My favourite gotta be 2, though, I think Shattered Memories is an awesome game. Dem plot twists.

The best one is definitely the first one! A masterpiece of survival horror games!
But I don't like the newer games, I think they should end the series and be done with it.

Pointing the flashlight with the Wiimote and using the Wiimote speakers for the phone really improved the atmosphere. Also, the dynamic shadows casted by the object you pointed the flashlight at o.O
Shattered Memories is one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played.
I liked the first 4 the most. Origins was good too, played on the PSP and PS2. My favorite would have to be the second one. Although the third one is a close second.
The original SH for its atmosphere
more recently Shattered memories was a very pleasant surprise and a ggreat twist on a completely stagnanted series

It is not that bad (Homecoming) and also, Downpour is not bad either. But they sure are not as good as the first 5.

No, they're not as good. But considering my expectations, I didn't found the games bad. I mean, people had de-hyped me Homecoming so much that I found it intriguing. Certainly they ruined the atmosphere by making the main character being a natural monster-killer, but other than that, I liked the story.
I own the Silent Hill HD collection and SH Homecoming, but I am lack of time and only can play one of these games.
I started Homecoming but didn't get attached to it yet (1 hour, just left the starting facility),.
I wander which one I should choose.
Completion time each one is circa 10 hours correct?
Silent Hill 2/3 was the pinnacle and when that series (to me) could hold its own against ANY games series around.
Sadly, since then it has fallen quite far. I think often they missed the point of what made 2 and 3 so great. It wasn't Pyramid Head, it was the writing, characters, story, atmosphere and how it all came together. I don't even like horror films / games and those games were brilliant enough that could not ignore what they offered.

My favorite is SH2, but I also liked a lot the original SH, SH3, Homecoming and Origins in that order.
Shattered memories was bad to me, and Downpour had excellent ideas but not well executed (Also, monster design was meh)
Book of memories, as a non silent hill game, is not THAT bad, in fact I enjoyed playing it
