can this translate to 'PS3 slim"?

Well, at least we will never witness RROD on PS3 anytime soon. *sighs*

It means that it costs less for them to produce PS3s and that may mean a savings on our end.

Possibly a cheaper PS3, but Sony will probably keep the same price to get an extra profit. Nothing too bad imo.

or counter Microsoft with a bigger price-cut if Microsoft is going to pull that (say Microsoft drops 50 dollars, Sony counters with 100 dollars drop)

Anyway, production cost seems to be doing really well for Sony, now I think about it, my 1 and half year old Sony TV... DAMNYOU SONY!!! lol

I agree Sony will probably drop the price of the PS3 if Microsoft cuts the 360's price. At least at this stage.

It is impressive how many different things Sony and its partners have done to bring the cost of the PS3 down. Processor and GPU shrinks; Blu Ray laser shrinks, Diode price reductions, removing the emotion engine, and so forth.

As someone said earlier, it's very apparent that Sony has done a much better job of cutting costs than Microsoft has.

Good. Now once I give my 60Gig PS3 to my mother (who needs backwards compatibility for her PS2 collection) and get another PS3 with this chip set, I'll be able to reconcile Folding@home and my environmentalism.
