Forums - Sony - Sony Registers “Helldivers” Trademark, Announcement Coming at Gamescom?

Sony has been teasing news at the upcoming Gamescom in Cologne for both announced and unannounced games. While we’ve yet to see various high-profile developers like Media Molecule reveal what exactly they’re working on for the next-generation PlayStation 4, the door is pretty much open for anything. That anything may be a new trademark registered by SCEA called “Helldivers”.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the name. Sony registered a domain name “helldiversgame.com” for the game as well. Will this be a new PlayStation 4 or PlayStation Vita title? Could it even be coming to the PS3? Are we the only ones who think this reminds us of Halo’s “Helljumpers”?

Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see what the company has in store for us. The PlayStation 4 is scheduled to launch this Holiday season with Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall and DriveClub. Rumours have it pegged as launching much earlier – as early as October. Stay tuned for more.

Even if it was a PSN game, doesn't necessairly mean it's casual. I guess we'll have to see what it is.

Doesn't sound casual to me to be honest ;-P
Rather like a dungeon hack&slash maybe with a isometric view, or a fantasy RPG. I wonder first, if it is a game, that seems pretty certain, whether they would announce and reveal it on Gamescom and which platform would it be on?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

And Uncharted sounds AAA and hardcore? Wipeout?

Your assumption is completely ungrounded. I could think of a dozen type of games that name could apply to that are AAA and non-casual. Since when does "hell" in a title make something casual?

I believe you're just saying stuff without thinking.

There are some very interesting possibilities here. A 'helldiver" could potentially refer to a few things.

First, it's a type of American WWII dive-bomber. This seems like a possible game direction.

Second, it's a type of aquatic, diving bird. Eh. Game potential is low.

Third, it's the model name for a type of mecha from an anime. Unlikely.

Or it could be something else I don't know about or unrelated to anything. I'm gonna go with the dive-bomber theory, though.
