Forums - Gaming - What Next Gen Games Are Not Just Current Gen Games That Look Pretty?

serious question: have you seen the "current gen" version of watch dogs?

...it is a pretty naive question to ask what games are just prettier version of current gen games. i've heard plenty of people dismiss Killzone SF as "just prettier" while completely ignoring things like more open format and climbable terrain because it's "just another shooter". well i'm telling you those gameplay additions can take a huge toll on system requirements.

Killzone SF could not be done on current gen without a massive visual downgrade ala current gen watch dogs.

so while you may want to dismiss games as "just prettier" everything from killzone to Ryse, from infamous to quantum break, from forza to drive club, from destiny to watchdogs... it all looks next gen.

Oh boy.

Quantum Break, killzone, Ryse: Son of Rome, Destiny, Forza, The Crew, The Division, Killzone...........

You know what Im just going to stop there because any game that is only on next gen goes on this list. A part of next gen is that they are not capable on current gen consoles. Whether that be because physics, graphics, artificial intelligence, Kinect, Gamepad, or the online structure.

We do not judge what is and isnt. We are not developers. We are consumers.

Furthermore what makes the games you listed any more next gen than games that others are listing?

The huge scale battles on FF15 are not possible on current gen, especially with you teleporting all over the place and the dynamic combat of Witcher 3.  Idk how you can include Quantum Break since we haven't even seen any gameplay for the game.

And everything I listed is capable on current generation?

We haven't seen Quantum Greak footage. The rest of the list seems legit.

On this I'll be agreeing with Kitler

I have read the OP.  Read my edit.  My point is that FFXV is doing no more than any other game on next gen.  A part of next gen is power and every game shown at E3 is not capable on current gen unless you cut back on graphics, scale, or functions.

This is why i asked what makes FFXV more next gen than any other game.

I said "So what I'm basically asking is what next gen games offer new and interesting gameplay experiences that was not possible on current gen."  Can you tell me one game on current gen that does what FF15 does?  With the huge scale battles and teleporting all over the map, you can cut back on graphics, but there is a obvious stopping point where the game looks like complete crap and can't be released.  Can you tell me what Ryse is doing gameplay wise that is such a strain on the console and will need a huge impact on the graphics?

Final Fantasy XV obviously looks good.  But once again, like any other game they could have scaled back and released it on current gen.  In fact it was originally slated for current generation. I fail to see revolutionary innovations beyond power though.

In many games the power goes hand in hand with the quality of the game (This includes Final Fantasy and Ryse).  Sure they could have been released on current generation but sacrificing the immersion of what they had in mind for us as gamers.

Beyond two souls is working very similarly. I need to see gameplay. This video is actually less in depth than the Ryse one. I've been watching videos like this since Heavenly Sword.

If you look at the gameplay footage of FF15 on PS3 you will see that the gameplay is on a much smaller scale, it is nowhere near as big as what FF15 on PS4 is.  Also you will see that the game is a lot more linear and not as open as FF15 on PS4 is.  Gameplay wise it is a completely different game.

MGS V and The crew come to mind.
Also in B4 and maybe KZ:SF (idk) the amount of people will be bigger, I think

And games like Watch Dogs and Grand Theft Auto V are being released this generation.  I would hardly say they are small.

Let's also look at a game called X for the WiiU which is pretty large scale.

They could have done the same thing with FFXV on PS3.  It just wouldnt have looked near as good.

Dude, FF15 is one of the hardest games in the world to get enough footage to figure that out.
