Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One boss Phil Spencer set for Gamescom keynote

CVG

Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer will provide the opening keynote at Gamescom later in August, the event's organiser has confirmed to CVG.

A statement on the matter has been released to the German media, though the message has not yet been sent to journalists in other territories. It is expected that Spencer will focus his talk on the Xbox One and next generation opportunities for the industry and gamers.

"The industry is at a turning point," Spencer said in a statement issued by event organiser Koelnmesse.

"Gamescom is the ideal platform to discuss the impact of new hardware, accessories and software for the next generation of games. There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry. It is exciting to see how developers and authors to use the new opportunities and create a completely new way of playing."

CVG was informed in early July that Microsoft was internally planning a Gamescom press conference.

Later, the company announced that it was hosting an Xbox One showcase event on August 20.

The date and details of Spencer's keynote is yet to be announced. Gamescom runs from August 21-25.

Please only repeat few titles which you already showed in E3. We need new title announcements. Personally, I expect you can announce Crackdown 3, Fable IV or MMO, new Viva Pinata, new perfect dark, new conker, new crimson skies, new PGR. I know I ask toooo much, but if you want to compete with PS4, then announce them. Or just drop the price to 349Euro, otherwise it will be too difficlut to survive in Europe.

And I pray for him not getting any negative booo from the audience...

Expect 2 announcements max at Gamescom, but that's fine, they've got a really solid line up announced after this holiday anyway!

I agree they need to cut price in Europe to compete, but don't worry about him getting boo'd. If they didn't get boo'd at E3 they certainly won't here!

So I should expect he gets a lot of negative boooooos, then MS will realize that they need to do more (much more) to be back on track with the consumers.

They should announce that it's launching at $399/EUR399, detail the self publishing, and that any Xbox One can be used as a development station to finally shut up most of the haters. Who am I kidding even if they announced all that the haters would still find some goal post to move to continue on hating.
