Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Games For Windows Live users can also log into Xbox One

Neowin

Yes, Games For Windows Live is still around. Microsoft's bungled attempt to launch a PC game online service that shared features with Xbox Live achievements, leaderboards and even cross-platform multiplayer with a few Xbox 360 games is still being used by many PC titles, even though most of its users complain about broken features and code.

Unfortunately, if you are logged into your Xbox Live account to play a Games For Windows Live title on your PC, that means a friend who may want to play an Xbox 360 game on your account would be out of luck.Today, Microsoft confirmed that people can log into their Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles with the same Xbox Live account at the same time.

But what about if you wanted to do the same with the Xbox One and a Games For Windows Live PC game?Kotaku reports that Microsoft has some good news on this score. A Microsoft spokesperson told the site, "You may be logged into Games for Windows Live and an Xbox One console simultaneously."

That's excellent news and should make people who still play the select few GFWL titles very happy. However, we think they might be happier if Microsoft just went ahead and ditched the service entirely, or replaced it with something that works better.

I am probably one of the few people who has loved WIndows Live for playing PC games. Ive never experienced any problems with it and while using my xbox controller i can easily get to my friends list and messages on XBL.

It won't replace Steam as Steam offers superior deals but i love it's layout and prefer it over steam. For me this is good news. I cant speak for the rest of you :P lol

I envy you immensely ¬_¬

I had to stop playing GFWL because it would log me off my xbox 360 and I couldn't watch netflix. I wish they would of fixed this a long time ago

this service will probably be dead in a few years anyway, don't seem to be that many new PC games using it.

I agree. And the games that force me to use it, I generally give up playing, because I honestly can't be bothered dealing with it.

Microsoft is supposed to be a Software powerhouse, yet they under-delivered on Games for Windows Live! On every single front in comparison to the competition, heck they have had years to write the wrongs and it still stagnates. (Steam wasn't perfect either on it's launch!)

That's on top of the fact Microsoft has neglected developing PC games for a long time now, the last notable Microsoft Developed PC-exclusive game that I personally can Remember was Age of Empires 3 released what, 7-8 years ago?
EA, Valve and Ubisoft actually have first party games available on their own services and are frequently adding new ones. - In otherwords the only time I'll ever use it is when it's forced upon me, otherwise I have no desire to use it ever and that's something they need to change.
People love and want to use Steam, when people use GFWL they curl up into a ball and start crying.

That's a shame, this probably means the service got an extension and Halo 2/3 will not come to steam any time soon, hopefully I'am wrong.

It seems GFWl is being absorbed into the Xbox Brand as Windows 8 has the Xbox app.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!
