I thought this was a Nintendo Thread and yet, you guys are talking about Sony?

John is right in one thing: the more PS3 and Xbox 360 sell, the more of an opponent they will be to both MS and Sony.
Launches aside, we will really see how the new consoles will fair next year.
Having PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, XB1 and Wii U all do well is unheard of and a bit utopic. Something will give. This Christmas season will be a good indicator on how much PS3 and XB360 will hamper sales of the new consoles into next year.

We talk about Nintendo but you sometimes have to bring in the competition!

The PS3 have every chance of catching the wii because of Sony's large market all over the world. Even if they kill it in the major markets it will sell on for a long time in parts Asia, Africa and S.America, in other words, the fast developing world.
The PS3 is hammering the x360 in sales, almost double a week. It has hit a wall as you said. It is only the most deluded that think they will both reach 90m, let alone 100m at the same time.
Anyhow the thread has been hijack by all this x360 an PS3 talk without the wii u not even getting a mention.

360 and PS3 at $99 - $149 will be going after a completely different demographic to which the PS4 and Xbox One will appeal to. Even today, very few core gamers are buying PS3's and Xbox's.

The thing is on course to ship 8 mill this year (and hit 84 mill) and you think 90 lifetime is deluded?? I don't think so. It's not even had a solid price cut in 5 years.

And how long until they reach those prices?
They would need a serious cut in price to reach those numbers. With PS4 and XB1 coming in losing money, i don`t think MS and Sony want to lose profits on the older consoles.
Don`t forget that for one or two years, developers will keep supporting both consoles. Which means, both won`t be leaving off of their own backlog.
Have no idea who`s buying them. But for 200-300, i doubt it`s the usual low income families market.

360 has had $99 skylander bundles last US black friday. They'll be $129 in no time, like I said 360 hasn't had a cut in 5 years, yet has had 2 redesigns, it's making serious bank.

I am to blame for bringing up PlayStation. We were talking about how Wii won the gen due to sales, and I said PS3 is on track to outsell it.
