i think by now the PS3 12GB should release to the US at 149$ tbh and the 500GB should get a price cut to 199$ since the super slim hardware is cheap to produce obviously.

I don't think they'll be that severe.  Judging by the GTA bundle ($60 game, 1 month of Plus, and a 500gb PS3) being $270 I think it's safe to assume that the 500gb will get a price cut to $250 before that game releases (since the 500gb is $300 by itself that wouldn't make much sense to buy that one).  That would knock the 250gb to $200 and if the 12gb model is really coming then I'm guessing it's either $200 with a game or $150-170

If they do 12gb and 500gb, then I think they would discontinue 250gb. There is no need to have 3 skus, small HDD and big HDD seems like the eay to go.

12gb-$199

500gb GTA 5 bundle-$269

Pointless model even if the price is very good. Might as well just get the 500gb model instead.

If the above rumor is true, then the GTA bundle just got a $30 price drop. Tretton said at the E3 conference the GTA bundle would cost 300 dollars.

I guess you never played Rage and MGS4 then. Both push the 8-9GB mark. If someone buys either game with their 12Gb slim, they're toast!

MGS4 install uses 4.6GB all chapters... Rage is 8GB.

Like I said you install Rage, play it, uninstall it, install MGS4, play it, uninstall it, bla, bla, bla.

You can play all PS3 games with a 12GB model... no restriction... even downloaded games, you download, play, delete, download other game, play, delete, bla, bla, bla.

You just have the inconvenience of waiting the install/uninstall, download/delete, etc.

I was thinking of the full install. That's like 9.4 Gigs. I can't imagine someone buying the 12 GB PS3 not knowing what they're getting would be too happy about having to uninstall everything after they get done playing it, especially with a game with a big install like GTAV coming out. That's a game that people are going to want to keep installed for a while unless they're just renting it. And even then, they'll have to keep an eye on their installs if they're the type that rents multiple games at once.

Um I live in Australia where everything is more expensive and I bought a super slim for AU$199 with LBP.

Correct, EB games etc have been selling the 12gb model at $199 for over a year now.

12 GB isn't actually 12 though, there's a conversion(binary to decimal) and then the PS3 OS takes some of the HDD itself.  I believe I read that the actual storage was a little bit less than 10 GB.

With that in mind, this 12 GB model though is mostly for casuals, it's most likely not going to be sold to someone who wants to play Rage or MGS4.  If most gamers see 12GB for 200$ and 500 GB for 249$.  I'm very certain most would go for the 500 GB version.   Yes, it's a tight space, but it's not for hardcore gamers (or anyone who'd be on this site).

GTA V will probably have an 8 GB install(that's what they said earlier, but things change).  That's well within the space.

Rage, maybe, but MGS4 is a pretty mainstream game. I wouldn't be shocked if some people would buy this cheaper version just to play an exclusive like that, especially when you consider 360 owners who owned PS2's last gen and just want to save. My question for the "not for hardcores" part would be how does that make it better? Even a lot of the so-called casual titles have installs of 2-3 gigs, so it's not like they'd run out of space in less time than a hardcore who bought the 12gb slim would, and even worse, a casual might not even know what they have to delete to play more games. The PS3 was simply not built to function without a HDD, so I don't know why they're trying now.

The only way I could justify someone buying this is if they were getting it just for exclusives like The Last of US or Uncharted that have minimal Installs or if they were planning to put a 1-2TB HDD in it. And even then, it has no mounting bracket for putting in the HDD, and it must be bought separately, so I'd still steer them toward the 500GB unless they really knew what they were doing.

On top of that, I just think owning a 12GB would be a massive headache for regular gaming. Casual or non-casual. And not to mention the parents that simply grab this for their children not knowing what they getting into only to hear their kids complaining about it could end up steering clear of Sony in the future. Just take a look at some of the 1 star reviews of the 12GB on Amazon.

And as for GTAV, I doubt the install will change this close to launch. They even had to require the 8GB install on the 360 version too. (it's that demanding), so that's one thing about it that's probably set in stone.

It's just enough space to do something, it's not pretty and it's definitely not worth it.  But it's there as a "cheaper" option.  It's a terrible idea for most gamers, but there is still going to be some people that would get it and love it.

The GTA V install size was announced a few months ago, I doubt it'll change, but it could've.  At this point most of the GTA V development is refining stuff, I can pretty much guarantee that.  I can't technically of course, because I'm not making the game.

Yeah I just can't see why they didn't make it around 20 gigs or something. That would have at least gave people a bit of wiggle room for keeping some games installed while trying out others.

And the only big change I can foresee for GTAV is it possibly being delayed or something due to the issue's they're reportedly having on both systems. But given the nature of the gaming industry these days, even if it wasn't ready, they'd probably just dump it out and give it a patch in the near future. It's not like people won't buy it. It's GTAV.

I'd just hope if they do, it's not a complete butcher fest like Skyrim was for all three systems, especially on the PS3. Rockstar should know better than to do that at this point in the generation.

ewwwww 12GB

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

My friends ps3 60gig launch just broke. This bundle is perfect for him. He can just swap out the harddrive and sell his system for cheap to someone who wants backwards compatibility.

People saying this system is pointless are very narrowminded
