My cousin and I were just discussing this very thing. He just finished it and is fine with the way it ended. I'd have liked this ending better (judging from the picture) or at least a choice of which ending I'd want to see. Great game nonetheless and awesome multiplayer.

its the one joel kills at the end of the game, when she begs for her life he tells her " you will just come after her" or something like that

Thats indeed Tess, she was originally planed to be the main villain.
Got that from the Artbook, has some great pictures in there
that would have been a more dramatic ending, but it would also have closed the door for a sequel for the game. the real ending was great and it opened a lot more for self interpretation, i would say that both endings would have been almost equally strong
