Nah, I didn't sweat it with my starter. Took whatever I got. In most cases, I wasn't really looking for one particular nature, but any one of several. Took me a long time to find a Joltik with an alright nature, though.

Quite. I had almost all of my bases covered with dual-typing in all of my team, and the only overlap was Dark type: had Fire, Fighting, Water, Flying, Dragon, Electric, Dark, Ice, Grass, Psychic, and Ground.

Tell me about it! 250+ hours in Pearl were all just breeding for the right IVs, nature, abilitys, and so ons. So much life wasted! Dx
I'm definitely going with PokeGen from now on to create my teams. Now before anyone says "CHEATER!!! HAXOR!!!," my Pokemon will be 100% legal, so all I'm really doing is saving time. What would normally take 250+ hours to do PokeGen let's you do in 25 minutes. That leaves a lot more time for the main attraction, which is battling! Besides, most everyone at tournaments including VGC ones use it, and they have a legality checker to make sure none of your pokemon have 255 EVs in every stat or something.

Blargh, I was just about to get an Air Balloon when I read it's effect fully and saw that it will pop when the Pokemon holding it takes a hit. So yeah, that's not gonna work out. Now what should I give Pachirisu to hold? =/

Use Arcanine and Lucario!! You can get both Growlithe and Riolu very early in the game
