Yeah, I've seen this quite a bit (been a moviegoer this summer) and I've always thought that it's really effective. It's also the reason why preorder numbers don't tell the whole story at all. Sony just isn't doing things like this to attract non-gamers too with the PS4 yet. When the mainstream goes to purchase a next gen system and starts asking if the PS4 can do this and that like the Xbox One, it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. That extra $100 may be like the iPhone premium when it comes down to it ...
