Forums - Gaming - Wii U Shipped 160k Units Worldwide Between April and June 2013

It's obvious that Wii U "sold" more, but these shipments are. not acceptable. I don't remember a worse quarter in memory..

More importantly, 2.4m 3DS's. That's quite good and up 30% over last year! Software is up by almost 50% as well. Good results.

Where are you getting 2.4m?  The 3DS was 1.4m, down ~25%.

Didn't PS3 do close to this badly as well though? They had the price cut to $399.99 in October 07 and they were fine. Once the fall and holiday games drop coupled with a price cut I think Nintendo will be fine.
There going to need to advertise better this holiday though. With a possible PS3/360 price cut and next gen systems arriving, the ads are going to be heavy for this industry.

these numbers are shipped right? Then why are most media reporting these numbers as sell through numbers?

Because most of the media are idiots....? Console manufacturers nearly always report shipped because to them a sale is when the retailor buys stock from them, the money the customer hands over in the store they don't see. The only reason they might care about how a product is selling through to the customer is when they try to predict when a retailor might order in more stock.

Lowest PS3 shipped was 0.7m and lowest 360 shipped was 0.5m.

First 3 Q's combined

WiiU - 3.61m
360 - 5m
PS3 - 4.2m

The PS3 has never shipped less than 700k in a quarter.  That was the equivalent quarter as well (Apr-Jun 2007).  That is also the only time it has been under one million in a quarter.  For the six month period Jan-Jun, the 2007 PS3 did 4.5x more than the Wii U has done in 2013.

So bad. Hopefully, Nintendo is learning lessons from this. Don't release a console if you aren't ready to support it properly.

It shows such horrible lack of foresight on their behalf. they must have been blinded by all the money they were making on the wii. A combination of that and a refusal to invest in more teams so they can support 3DS and Wii U at the same time without the other being compromised.

The lowest the ps3 ever shipped was 710k in q1 2007. So roughly 4.5 times better than the Wii u.

No they aren't.  The 3DS shipped 1.4 million "of which" the XL was 990k.
