Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation 4 gives up to 5.5GB of RAM to game developers

2. PS4 have seven minutes of gameplay record. (even everybody knowing it is confirmed 15 minutes he tried to say "seven" instead "several" and posted a so bad quality audio to support his clains... the problem is that everybody listened the audio and seems like "several" and not "seven"... even after Sony confirm again 15 minutes he tried to avoid everything saying the guy speaking (from the audio) that did the mistake... but the audio you listen "several" lol).

Your interpretation of this is absolutely incorrect and patently false.

The Sony spokesperson did say "several", however after the presentation he gave he clarified and corrected.  The script said "several" and he corrected "seven" to "several".  There is no definitive statement from him that it is 15 minutes, nor have I read a direct Sony statement since that has said 15 mins.  Originally, yes, Sony said 15 mins but they did not say that at that presentation NOR did they clairify it to mean 15 mins in any statement I read since.

Not really earth-shattering, I doubt devs would go and waste the entire RAM at this early part of the gen.

well, sony's spokesperson nr. 1 jonathan blow complained about the xbox one with "only" 8gb and 5gb free for games because his game already needs 5gb and like he said "it's only an indie game".

if this will be true i'm looking forward to see him tweeting the whole day how bad it is for ps4 now but i'm sure he won't.

Update:  Jonathan Blow deleted his Twitter account.  Seriously.

Nope. He hasn't deleted anything.

Thanks for the correction.  I kept getting an error saying it didn't exist when I tried to go to it this morning.  The first time was my obvious error, but I attempted to search on his name and it didn't come up with anything.  But your link worked.

Blow has deleted his tweets regarding the Witness and 5gb ram. I guarantee he does a backtrack and releases his game on the Xbox One. He has already made a tweet about it. What a dbag. I won't be buying it.

What are you talking about. All we heard was that the Xbox One is a media box, tv, tv, tv, etc. You can't deny all those comments. They are totally separate from the DRM fiasco and were only said by PS4 fans. Now I guess this makes the PS4 a media box right? If not then a lot of people on here should apologize, but of course they wont. This is seen as a good thing all of a sudden because it is Sony.

What are YOU talking about? "real" xbox fans were the only ones liking the whole tv, sports crap. All the hardcore gamers was bashing the Xbone from left to right. didn't matter if it was the Sony fans or not.

It really is sad that these particular Xbox fans are in essences projecting themselves upon others. They are beyond reason to the point where they just could not comprehend that reasonable gamers regards of their platform of choice strongly disagreed with Microsoft's original Xbox One policies. So besides seeing how unreasonable they are, they create the illusion that it was the Sony fans who were stirring all the issues when it was infact legit consumers who voiced their discontent. They have a greater hate for Sony than the love for gaming. How can one claim to be a gamer with such hate? Well, he can but it would be disgenuine and a disservice to the gaming community as a whole.

So what I understand from Sony comments it that all the flexible memory is reserved for Games too.

How many memory is used by OS, Games and flexible is yet unknown.

The fact is the OS is still Beta/Alpha... there are a lot of optmizations to be made yet and even Sony didn't know how much memory the final version it will use.

That's what I guess.

That is what I said. Sony plays safe, like MS, to further optimize their OSs. And Sony has a way harder task because they have to develop a lot of more things on their own where MS has already software for it.

5g is still enough for games nowadays.

3GB for the OS?

I'm sorry but that's fucking insane. The Xbone has 3 operating systems and provides a seamless experience with apps and switching over, AND multitasking. The PS4 will use a variation of Linux and it looks way more simplistic than a fucking windows kernal.

What the fuck is eating up all this RAM? Wouldn't the 15 min recording stream to the hard drive? If not, then fuck that feature.

In hindsight Sony had never come clear about how much memory was reserved for the games and I now see why, they knew their fans would be disappointed.

I'm tired of these fucking console makers being discrete over the true specifications of the console. I feel like they're trying to trick their consumers, fuck that. To be honest the PS4 is starting to look less and less appealing to me. I might just stick to PC Gaming to be honest Sony is losing me as a fan.

@Bold:  I would really love for people to understand that this is correct. At least for 4-5 years.  People like pointing fingers from all sides and it's fucking annoying. Who cares.  I also wish some people would step up and be the better person and just let shit go.  Yes, let's get angry over a freaking games console.
