And improving your console / service to sell more units is nothing bad.

No, I don't think that's the issue.  Rather, I think Microsoft's problem now is that first impressions can linger for a long time.  Even the national media was reporting about the initial reaction over the XO--and remember, the national media rarely comes back when something gets changed or fixed, they're only interested in negative stories.  Bad impressions can only be changed over time, especially for people who don't really check gaming news every day.  The first impression hits hard but everything after that has to filter down.

The good news for Microsoft is that the bad stuff happened so long before launch.  They've got plenty of time to change things around if they really work at it.  They need to make sure they have a good Gamescom and even TGS.

But right now?  I bet that the average person still has a less than favorable impression of the XO.  Only time and smart marketing by Microsoft will correct that.
