Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: “no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect”

VG247

Xbox One bundles will be made available in summer 2014 without Kinect, according to an anonymous source speaking with Machinima’s Inside Gaming. However, Microsoft has since issued a statement saying it has no plans to do such a thing.

Earlier today, a source told Inside Gaming there would be two bundles made available during the summer next year: a standard bundle without Kinect, and a budget version containing an Xbox One with a smaller hard drive to undercut the price of PS4.

Inside Gaming noted, rightly, that such a report contradictedMicrosoft’s assertion that the console wouldn’t function without Kinect installed. If it will work without the camera, this indicated Microsoft’s launch bundles would be a ploy to get Kinect in the homes of early adopters.

This however, seems to not be the case at all, according to Microsoft which issued the following statement on the report to Game Front:

“We have no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect,” said the firm. “We believe in Kinect and the value it brings to both games and entertainment, and believe $499 is a great value for what consumers receive with their Xbox One.”

Xbox One will release this November sometime.

They will just keep the 360 around for awhile for a cheaper alternative.  499 price point is going to be a tough price point after the holiday season.  I can see it struggling next year like the Wii U did unless it has a bunch of must buy games released at a steady pace.

If they plan to sell the full package this year....it wouldn't make sense to confirm the rumor in July.

The rumor stated summer of 2014. This would imply they confirm the rumor, if true, in spring of 2014.

After the Bioshock PS3 denial, I learned that no denial is truly permanent. "No plans" is also corporate speak. It means they have "no plans" to discuss their intentions with us at this time.

then again it would make absolutely no business sense to do it next year and if they don't do it next year it wouldn't make any more sense to do it later on once the price is going down any way.... the only crowd that they are losing with kinect really is the provacy freaks crowd... the other concerned by the price but that are still interested will eventually buy it when the price is right in a year or two or later and that is fine from a business standpoint.... heck they'll probably will have a bigger profit margin on the Box after the first price cut due to economy of scale...
So unless a major flop at launch and way I say major I meaning selling less than a WiiU or a Dreamcast I don't see this happening at all..

Tee hee, I was busy last night. Not that I had anything to do with the announcement.

Yes, I really don't see it happening. Any more than I see Ford releasing "Headlight Free" versions of their cars. For people afraid of the light, and that old rumor that if you flash your lights the gangs will come kill you.

As endimion said, I don't think the privacy freak/tin foil hat wearing are ever going to use it. Well, until they realize you can do as much or more through someone's cell phone.

People will like it once they stop being afraid and start using it.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Actually it does make good business sense to sell the expensive model first and then introduce a cheaper version later. Cheaper version this year means less revenue.

It would be good if the sales die off in the new year. Which it may very well due to the price gap, especially in Europe.

that's exactly what I said/meant... but a kinect less model doesn't make sense.... cheaper next year maybe, kinect less stupid LOL

kinect less means more net loss than bundle cheaper at a loss for MS
