Forums - Gaming - Introducing Google Chromecast

Today Google announced their new streaming device.

Its pretty awesome. It can stream all video/web/music content from ANY, not just Android, but any smartphone/tablet/PC to your TV.

It only cost $35 too.

Already ordered mine.

Now I wonder if it will stream game content...

*****************

EDIT updated again...

Why do so many of you come in saying "this isn't new"... who the hell said it was?

It can stream your content (so long as its cloud based in google's services).
It can stream anythign from web via Chrome as well as directly from Play, Netflix and youtube.
It can work with Android, iOS, Win, Mac and ChromeOS.
It uses your wifi to connect to said devices and then handles the content directly from web so your device can do other things.

My only point is that it does this very simply for a very low cost.

Very good walk through of the device. Seems extremely simple and easy to use. Also reaffirms that literally anything on the chrome browser is cast to TV with ease... including free Hulu.

In fact, you can use your Chrome browser casting to allow you to play any media you have stored locally on your device. (probably to the extreme with Chromebooks where its technically only a browser)

"Chromecast is not available in your country." Why does this always happen to me. No body likes Canada... It seems like a cool idea, hopefully it comes by here evenutally.

35 dollars! So...We hook it up to our PC, and with a cable it will stream youtube or something?

Did you not open the link?

Its an HDMI device.

Connect to TV and it then shows as a device on your wifi to connect too. Anyone on the wifi can sync with it and then stream though it to TV.

Any Android/iOS device.

Any Win7/8 or MacOS10+ PC.

ChromeOS too.

Then from what I can tell any video or music related item plus it seems like anything you're viewing in Chrome.

I want it but i use my wii u for everything it does so I wouldn't use it.

True. But this is actually simplier, doesn't tie up WiiU (or any console really), and can be fully controlled by anyone on their device. So easier to show content they own already.

"Already ordered mine." - There are so many products/apps that do this already. Why didn't you pick it up from somewhere else already if you wanted this feature?

In terms of this product, I already have a WiDi adapter for laptop to TV streaming and a Plex server for all video streaming. Not sure what an extra HDMI adapter will do other than give Google access to my viewing habbits.

Does one even need to ask this? It Google...this is worthless to them unless its connected to the internet.

It absolutely needs WiFi to work.

Here is an idea though for anyone that gets it. Create internal only wifi network with no outside internet connection and connect this device to it. See if you are able to stream without "internet" and that way you may be able to shaft Google ads and tracking in the process.

None do it with this simplicity and across so many device types.... for only $35.
