Forums - Gaming Discussion - Someone please explain 'HARDCORE'......what does it mean?

In an interview with gamespot, that dude sator......(whatever)  said....

“…Nintendo has teams working on meeting the needs of more hardcore gamers. The big complaint from them now may be that we’re not pouring all of our resources into that sector exclusively, but I feel that it’s Nintendo’s mission to make both kinds of games. Every experienced gamer today was a beginner at some point, who encountered an experience that made them fall in love with games.

I think it’s absolutely critical to keep that entryway open for new people. I think it’s really important to strike that balance between the two extremes. While it’s possible to create a game like Brain Age in an extremely short period of time with a great idea and the right people, a game like Zelda contains content that physically and inevitably demands more time to create."

Ok, what i've learned from dealing with Xbox & PS3 fans. Hardcore means blood and violence, boobs and A$$.

From what I've learned from Webster and grade school, Hardcore means devotion and commitment.

If i go with Xbox & PS3 fans, then I guess nintendo  wears diapers & a bib,

But if i go with webster, wouldn't Zelda qualify as one of the most hardcore series ever.

I lost more than 50hrs of my life thx to twilight princess....

( that puzzle with the 2 statutes that u have to return to their original spot took like 2 weeks of frustration, I would turn the game off after 20mins of trying, and I wouldn't touch my Wii till the next day. )

Gears of War took 2 days...3 if u count playing past midnight.

So to end all my ranting.. Give me your definition of a hardcore gamer!,

..PS.... The couch potato that lives in mommies basement and eats BBQ chips all day, wears a dirty tank top and shorts is not a hardcore gamer, he's a loser gamer.

Also if you currently receive a weekly allowance, you are not a hardcore gamer you are a KID, no matter how many kills you have in Halo 3

And if you own DOA extreme, you are not hardcore you are a perv.

i like what u said about "hardcore games"

but in order for a hardcore gamer to coincide with  definition, than he really shouldn't rely on gamepro and egm

I'd ask for forgiveness for my poor joke, but I'm not apologetic about it. The more you get interested in the term "hardcore gamer/gaming", the more you realize it's a more pathetic joke than what I did.

Meh. Mostly the terms get used to refer to people who like the same kinds of games as the speaker, and those who don't.

When I say hardcore gamer, I refer to people who play games as a major hobby. Not necessarily every day, or many hours at a time, but they're more than an occasional diversion. Usually lots of different types of games too, but I guess someone who plays just a few similar games all the time would count as well.

A hardcore game is a game that's primarily meant to appeal to these hardcore gamers. There's some overlap with casual games, since lots of games like Grand Theft Auto or Super Mario have huge appeal to both types of gamers, but that's too messy of a topic to get into right now.
